This hampers the otherwise excellent playing experience and feels like a sacrifice that ends up hurting the CDP-S100. Chorus comes in 4 different types, along with the OFF option. The chorus ranges from a subtle stereo widening effect to a lush detuned flanging.

The good thing is both have adjustable touch sensitivity – four choices for the P45 and three for the CDP S100. And don’t worry because whichever you choose, the sound will come out the same. This app is available on Android and iOS and streamlines navigation. We’ll cover this in detail in the Connectivity section, but the experience was just fine without it. With chorus and reverb off, certain notes sound a little weird when holding them down. On a real piano, while a sustained note decays in volume its timbre also changes. You can hear on this model that the designers have carefully looped the sustain part of many notes as they fade them out. Unfortunately, a few notes do show a little “beating” during the sustain part of the envelope. But you really have to listen hard for this and for 99% of music you will never notice it. The funny thing is not all notes do this: it’s particularly noticeable in headphones from C5 – E5. Casio CDP-S Range: SpecificationsHowever, if you’re someone that always wants to hottest new thing in tech and music, then go for the Casio CDP-S110 if you have the extra money (and don’t prefer to spend that extra money on additional accessories for your new piano, like a piano bench or a stand).

The keys are made of synthetic ebony and ivory and this has been a common theme here with newer keyboards. Portability Talking about the effects, the CDP-S100 comes with two built-in effects, the Chorus and the Reverb. The reverb has four algorithms in ascending grades from a small room to a large concert hall, at the maximum grade. Chorus again comes in four different types starting from a subtle stereo sound to lavish lush flanging tunes. A good digital piano will do its best to mimic the way an acoustic piano’s keys feel. They should be weighted to allow you to develop the dexterity and technique that you need, and they should respond to how soft or hard you push down a key.

I have nothing negative to say about the piano sound. I do use a bright setting rather than the default which may be more a function of my hearing. I usually bump up the touch sensitivity one or two notches as well. The 3 variants are versatile and flexible. The standard piano is the perfect all-arounder and can handle songs from any genre with its clean, neutral tone.

The mechanisms of the two may be different, true. The former is essentially run by the Progressive Hammer Action and the AWM Stereo Sampling, while the latter is set in motion by the Scaled Hammer Action and the Dual Element AHL II. But the output is pretty much the same and, more importantly, very close to a real acoustic piano.Beginners will genuinely have a blast playing, and more importantly, learning on these two digital pianos. Personally, I recommend practicing with the standard preset, as it has the clearest tone of the bunch and allows you to pinpoint mistakes and weaknesses easily. Casio’s CDP S100 uses the new and improved Dual Element AHL II. The acronym means Acoustic and Highly-Compressed Large-Wave Form, the company’s proprietary tech that uses waveforms of different samples of a single note producing a realistic sound. The Casio CDP-S100 is an 88-key MIDI keyboard piano that offers a variety of features for musicians of all skill levels. With button controls and a built-in metronome, this piano provides easy access and convenient functionality. The maximum polyphony of 64 notes allows for complex, layered playing without any dropouts or interruptions. Layer mode allows you to play two sounds simultaneously and is a standard feature on most keyboards and digital pianos, regardless of price range.

So, that being said, the S110 does have some advances made to its sound. Admittedly, when I played both of these pianos, it took me a few moments to realize that there was even a difference in their sound at all. From what I can hear, the extra bit of processing punch that the S110 has gives its notes a little bit of a more natural sound to them. Now, with that said, I didn’t feel much of a difference in the action of the keys. The action is a bit light for my taste, but considering these instruments are aimed at beginners, that isn’t an issue at all. Most beginners even prefer lighter action on their keyboards. USB adapter and cable: Use a USB-B type cable and an adaptor to connect the piano with the phone or the computer.The USB- B port connects the Casio with the smartphone and also to the computer. Pairing it with the smartphone needs assistance from paired apps.
