Because if He talks to you, he may not be telling you what you want to hear. So I’ve got into this kind of argument with the Lord. It’s not enough just to live longer; you’re supposed to get better! Paul told Timothy, ‘…Stir up the gift…which is in you…’ (2 Timothy 1:6 NKJV) Wesley Tracy said, ‘Some people have the notion that following your spiritual gift is spending the days and years of your life doing only those things which come naturally, easily, with no effort, discipline or practice. No, your gift can either be mediocre or excellent; it’s up to you.’ Gass ran Bob Gass Ministries from his home in Georgia, with an international purpose and scope. His organisation retains the right to distribute the devotional within the United States. [4] Bob was born on 15 January 1944, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His father died when he was 12, and his mother was left to rear him, his brother, Neil, and sister, Ruth, on a government pension. I preached my first sermon when I was 13 but years later on my wedding day, we received a prophetic word which said God would use my writing to reach more people, than words spoken in the pulpit. It has been an extraordinary blessing to see how God has used the UCB Word for Today since then, to reach millions of people around the world. God continues to make himself known through the ‘power of a story’.’

The Chief Executive of United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) David L’Herroux has announced the passing of Bob Gass, on June 5th.

In 1998, Bob launched The Word For You Today in the U.S. He wanted to give churches a tool that would help pastors disciple their members and keep them engaged with God's Word on a daily basis. Today over 5,000 churches each quarter use the devotional, with a reach of 1 million copies per quarter. The devotional is in print, on television, radio, and digital platforms in places like Africa, Argentina, Cuba, China, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nepal, and Russia, and currently reaches over 83 million people each day. By the time Bob was 12, his heroes were not movie stars or sports celebrities but men and women of God. At this time, he gave his life to Christ. Bob and Debby Gass have been great friends of Vision’s ministry for many decades – from almost the very beginning. Bob had a unique style and a rare gift of taking the Word of God and applying it to everyday life. He wrote The Word For Today – with the support of a great team – in a way that it appealed to those who didn’t know God (so that it acted as an ‘appetiser’) and it also helped more mature believers to go deeper in their faith (rather like a ‘vitamin’ especially in challenging times). Production of a contemporary version called Word 4U 2Day (known as Word For You Today in some countries) began in August 2003. It was developed in conjunction with The Message Trust, a Christian youth ministry based in Manchester. It is an adaption of the original devotional, geared to appeal to the younger generations in society. The first edition of The Word 4U 2Day rolled off the press in time for August 2003 with a print run of quarter of a million copies.
