My favourite part in the story was at the start when it told me about the boys dream to be a chariot racer. The book is about a bird called Croakbag and he is telling you a story about a boy called Perilus and Scorcha who go charioting. I would recommend this book to 8-10 year olds because younger may not understand some of the language in it. I am interested in Roman times. I like learning about Gladiators and the towns Romans lived in but I think the book didn’t inspire me even more. To find out about history I prefer more factual books. Here is a list of 8 words from our statutory word list, please can you choose 8 of these spellings to practice writing. Make sure you are using your best handwriting! If you want to challenge yourself try and place these words into full sentences.

Discuss with someone your answers. Perhaps you could measure objects within your household and apply the correct measurements to them. To help us we use the question words: Who, Where, What, When, Why and How. I have added a video which will talk you through the steps you need to follow. The history contained in the book was quite poor. It described a Roman family in modern times so it didn’t show what Roman times were like. The author tried to add humour but I didn’t find the jokes very funny. The book may suit younger readers more (age 6-7 maybe). Open the attachment Thursday 28 th January Guided Reading. Throughout this time I will be uploading videos to support you with the work I set for English and Maths and we will also be having zoom calls when possible. These will each have a specific focus and will be topic based as well as English and Maths.I love Jeremy Strong’s books because of how funny they all are and after reading this book I don’t know how I am going to stop getting more of his books. I hope you feel the same. We learnt about measurements and perimeters before the Christmas break, however this would be productive to re-cover. This book is extraordinary because it is funny and it makes you see what is happening in your mind. There is lots of fun and adventures to be had. I loved it. The book is very similar to other Jeremy Strong books. It’s humorous. He uses lots of funny names for the characters like, Flippus Floppus and Hysteria, who is Perilus’ older sister. It is easy to understand. The author is very good at describing objects, such as Maddusbananas’ inventions. The book includes some Latin words so the reader is learning as well. The book gives lots of factual information, including what it would be like to be rich or poor in ancient Rome. For example the reader learns that it was possible for slaves to be freed and educated and what wealthy Roman ate; ostrich and stuffed dormice! I think the book is accurate because it matched lots of things I already knew about Ancient Rome.

I love this book because it makes you laugh and at the same time makes you wonder what is going to happen next. My favourite bit is when Maddasbanaus uses his fire engine to save the house because now, we use them so often but he would have invented and used one first. Jeremy Strong’s is good book for 11 and over because it has quite hard words in and you’ve got to keep up with the story because it adds on lots of information like words in Latin. I personally didn’t like the book but other people might. This book is a book that could help people learn a different language (bits of it). I don’t think this tells you a lot about history. It just says Latin words and about a chariot race. I don’t think it is very historical but some people might like reading it because they think it is fun. Look at the paragraph which begins with “No, they’re not!” Sum up what happened in this paragraph in 20 words or less. I would like you to answer the questions remembering to punctuate them correctly. Try to use some of the different words for said that you came up with yesterday.Kitty: Perlis is crazy about chariot racing. And is being taught by Scorcher [the best charioteer in Rome.] Unfortunately, scorcher has been sent to jail … even worse on the BIG RACE! What’s perilous going to do? This book is based in the roman period .I would also recommend this for [9-11] years. As this will make u giggle and smile for the rest of the day. Hello to my brilliant Year 4 Class. He wants to take part in the most epic chariot race in all of Rome. But first, Croakbag , the smartest Raven in Rome, has to solve a mystery about who stole all the money from the bank. The robbery was planned by a man named Krysis & three other children, who successfully stole the money . But Croakbag tactically stopped them. John: I didn’t like the book because it was difficult to follow the story line and I found it rather dull. I was surprised not to enjoy it as I had read other books by Jeremy Strong before – like “The Hundred Mile and Hour Dog” which I really enjoyed.
