For the 2005-2006 season, when the Dutch co-production Sesamstraat received new sets and scenery, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster and Elmo flew over to Holland for this special occasion. Cookie Monster's identity gradually took shape, and he became one of the most popular and beloved characters on the show.

In the Food Network program Good Eats episode "Three Chips for Sister Marsha" (first aired December 13, 2000), a puppet named Maj. He suggested to executive producer Dave Connell about writing for the blue, boggle-eyed monster and having him talk very little. Cookie Monster has a deep, growly voice, and generally speaks with simplistic diction — for instance, saying "Me want cookie! Muppet' was actually made up by Jim Henson himself after trying to combine ''puppet'' with ''marionette''.You want to make sure this white base is a strong material like wood or hard plastic, otherwise the next step won’t work.

The Healthy Habits for Life segments spawned Internet rumors that Cookie Monster's name had been changed to Veggie Monster or would be taken off the show entirely. Despite his voracious appetite for cookies, Cookie Monster shows awareness of healthy eating habits for young children and also enjoys fruits and vegetables. Since it’s so easy to make, we think it would be a fun craft for older toddlers, and preschool and kindergarten children. There’s something about hearing a story that’s just so much better than reading it silently to yourself. His theme song ''C is for Cookies'' was replaced with his new anthem ''Cookies are a sometimes food'' which was modeled upon the Porgy and Bess song, ''A Woman is a Sometime Thing''.The "Flute-Snatcher" turned into Snake Frackle, a background monster from The Great Santa Claus Switch and The Muppet Show.

These were the materials I had on hand, however, you could substitute the pins with screws and the velvet with felt, or really any materials that you think would work.In a live-hand puppet, like Cookie Monster, one of the performer’s hands is in the puppet’s head while the other is in one of the puppet’s arms, which has gloves for hands. As it turns out, these commercials were never aired — but all three monsters had a future in the Muppet cast.
