Admittedly, not every game is going to be a 100GB behemoth like Gears or Halo, but most are going to be between 30GB and 60GB. With over 800GB of storage, you could at least store 15 to 20 games at a time — double what you could store on the original Xbox Series S SSD. In my opinion it was a nice strategy given they are still unable to release and market a game that convinces someone to buy their product. They've bought countless publishers but haven't been able to release anything that competes with AAA Playstation titles so having a product with a considerably lower barrier of entry is important. I'd never buy a Series X but I could see myself buying a Series S on a "what the hell, why not" moment and I think that's translating to the better sales numbers of this generation. Games like jedi can hit as low as single digit framerate. Games that run at a solid 30 FPS on series X run low 20s with stutter on the S. And its not getting any better, the S has so little RAM and hamstrung hardware that it doesnt get any of the eye candy from the quality modes either.

Consoles never get most of the eye candy anyway, be it Series S, Series X or PS5. Most games are still being released on previous gen consoles - not just the pro versions either, the now ancient and slow original PS4 and Xbox One, including Jedi Survivor btw - if those can run the games, the Series S has a much easier time doing so with the extra memory, ssd and modern CPU (jaguar was bad)In short, yeah, it absolutely will. That's why I'm sold on it: you’re actually getting the amount of storage space Microsoft promised in the original console. Once the 148GB operating system is accounted for, the 1TB console will have 850-ish gigs of storage to play around with. Still, I’m not going to tell you that there’s not much of a difference between the two Xbox consoles — because there certainly is and I think gamers who notice frame rate speed will appreciate the higher processing power of the Xbox Series X — but there’s a huge swath of folks out there who want both an Xbox and PS5 and can’t pay full price for both. It makes sense that Microsoft didn’t want to launch with the larger SSD — it might’ve been confusing to see two Xbox consoles on store shelves with such similar specs. Now, though, the Xbox Series X has differentiated itself from the Xbox Series S that most folks know the difference between them, which now allows Microsoft to dial up the specs of the Series S.

If that’s you, the new Xbox Series S with a 1TB SSD looks like a great compromise between price and performance. I just wish it would’ve arrived a little sooner.
