Secrets have always been a dangerous thing and the longer she stays in the town, the more dangerous it becomes for Ellery. A leak is likely to bring the secrets to an end since many people cannot keep a secret. I love me a good sibling bond in a book. Recently I've been reading books where there is sibling hate or no siblings at all. Personally I have five siblings - not that we all get along all the time. But I feel like sibling relationships don't get enough rep and are unappreciated. The investigations reveal that he had scheduled to disclose a number of secrets for all the four students that were with him in detention. These facts make the four of those that walked out suspects to the murder but pointing out who was responsible becomes the hustle. However, there is a possibility in which the killer could have come from outside. It seems that the motive of the murder could be connected to secrets that Simon was about to release the next day. The students who were together with the slain victim were considered high profile, and each seemed to have heard secrets that would ruin their reputation.

Bronwyn, Nate, Cooper, and Addy are suspects for murdering the school's gossiper, Simon. When the 5 of them were in detention, the last thing they expect is for Simon to drop dead... Unless one of them planned the whole thing. Addy's POV is very shallow and portrays a terrible relationship and girl drama. (But she has a good growth arc.)mental illness rep: Nope nope nope. Let's please not use mental illness as a motive or in such a degrading way. _____ is depressed, and using that as something to explain why a person did something horrible, is not something I ever want to read. Villainizing all the characters with mental illnesses and degrading them to just that, is an automatic no for me. Also, can we please NOT make the only queer character in the cast a horrible character who cheats and hurts people? AND can we not make the character's coming-out scene a bigger twist than the actual murderer reveal? This book also does some serious vilifying of mental illness, but I won't get started on that rant.

Karen presents another fascinating thriller Two Can Keep a Secret. Down in echo ridge, Ellery’s aunt went missing some years ago at the age of seventeen years. She goes to visit her grandmother who she barely knows, and that’s when she experiences the tales told about echo ridge. I love a murder mystery anyway, but this one was made better as I cared about the 4 kids who were suspects. First, kudos to whoever was in charge for finally getting a dang blurb right. This absolutely was “The Breakfast Club Meets Pretty Little Liars.” Per usual, I was not the target audience for this selection, but hey the sun shines on an old dog’s butt every once in a while because I thought it was . . . .

All 4 end up in detention with Simon Kelleher, the guy who runs a gossip app that ruins reputations with its secrets. All four of them have a secret to hide and would do anything to keep it hidden. But at what cost? Because by the end of detention Simon is dead, but who did it? There are a couple of characters in the book that are said to be depressed and one of them was Simon, the boy who died. The final plot twist is that Simon wasn't murdered, but killed himself. Again, I think that some of Simon's feelings that surround his depression could be very relateable to teenagers, but I had three huge issues with how his suicide was portrayed. As a huge fan of "The Breakfast Club", I loved the concept of five characters with different personalities meeting in detention from the get go, and I'm incredibly happy to report that my high expectations were even exceeded!
