Being a relatively new company, Orient was forced to shut down. After the war ended, they introduced the company as “Tama Keiki Company” before rebranding themselves a year later to “Orient Watch Company”. The Orient Mako II and Orient Ray II are both divers from Orient Watch Co., Ltd. They share many similar features, including the same movement and water resistance rating. The main differences are in the design and style of the watches. The Mako II has a more classic and traditional dive watch look, while the Ray II has a more modern and sporty look. The Orient Kamasu II case is made of 316L stainless steel. The watch has a mixture of brushed and polished finishes that is nothing to write home about, as they’re not done any better than other watches in this price range. It also has a luminous triangular pip at the noon position which is the standard for diver watches. All in all, this is a pretty typical dive watch case design. At this price, very few manufacturers put much effort or R&D into the case design or level of finish, so I can’t fault it here, but I do appreciate how Orient will still attempt to go even slightly above and beyond with the design itself.
