The plot is gossamer thin (Jack is keeping secrets of his own) and the lopsided romance not entirely believable, but Kinsella's down-to-earth protagonist is sure to have readers sympathizing and doubled over in laughter. The story has a few twists and turns, what with Connor being annoyingly persistent in questioning Emma about whom she is dating at the present moment; then, the confrontations that she has with many characters in the story, one of whom was her division’s boss. How she feels like a fraud at work – everyone uses the word ‘operational’ all the time but she hasn’t a clue what it means. I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom to Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben Hur. Connor actually works in a different division at the same company as Emma, but she comes to terms – during the flight, too – that she and Connor just aren’t meant to be.

Over the course of the weekend, a lot of secrets come out and it is clear there is still a lot of bad blood between the six former friends. her sex-life (from the loss of her virginity to her boyfriend’s failure to find her… uhhhh… okay, let’s leave it at that, shall we. My hair is straightened, I’m wearing discreet earrings like they tell you to in How-to-win-that-job articles, and I’ve got on my smart new Jigsaw suit.

Further, Emma's crochet-loving work friend Katie is gender-swapped to become Casey (Robert King) - though the tidbit about a potential significant other using Casey to do house repairs remains the same. The other secondary characters aren’t very dimensional either, but as they are there for mostly comedic purposes, they don’t detract from the story. She’s not had much luck in her career choices, she has a cousin who takes the limelight and a boyfriend she’s completely in love with… or so she thinks.

If you enjoy a well plotted and well written book with a hidden mysteries then Can You Keep A Secret could be the book for you. This certainty makes her spill the beans to her next-seat neighbour – she tells him everything, and by that I mean everything – all her deepest and darkest secrets. This book made me realise that everyone has secrets – some people may have big, deep, dark secrets whereas others may have much smaller ones.Like a riotous gossip with your best friend—it’ll have you laughing, cringing and hopelessly engrossed from the first page. Set alternately in the early 90s and 2017, the secrets of Lindsay, Rachel and Rachel’s family gradually come out – and you will want to keep reading to find out what they are!

I’ve been reading very quickly in 2018 and this was my fifth book of the year (I finished it on 24th January).I thought that the authors wrote Lindsey and Rachel’s friendship extremely well – female friendships, particularly teenage female friendships are incredibly difficult and can be particularly fraught. I’ve always had this deep down conviction that I’m not like everybody else, and there’s an amazingly exciting new life waiting for me just around the corner. Fast forward to September 2001 and Caitlin was in New York for six weeks, visiting and staying with the man she loved.
