The new Defender is built to withstand the rigours of family life — it’s entirely child-friendly and will forever be able to withstand my muddy boots jumping in and out. The writing too is accessible without being too simplistic; this is a well-written book which any age will enjoy. I've often wondered where the "boy" equivalent of school stories has been hiding - since Harry Potter we've not had many male lead characters in boarding school tales, but we have had the likes of Murder Most Unladylike and so on.

So impressed was I by the Defender that as soon as I had tested one, I said to Land Rover that I just had to get one.I have always loved the real Alfred the Great, and so this young new Alfred II wass quite interesting to me. Here they witness a violent attack from an other-worldly creature like a giant lizard, who defeats the UK’s superhero protector known as the Defender of the Realm. Some chapters are from Alfie’s perspective, others from Hayley’s, and that really balances things out. And it’s all interlinked, without the failures you don’t learn anything so you’ll never progress to the successes. Alfie is pulled into a whole new world of secrets, underground passages, magical powers and monsters that wreak chaos from the Thames right through to Edinburgh Castle.

I thought this was an unusual, cool and intriguing concept and I can`t think of anything especially similar to this. Although there is a little problem, As the Main Character, Alfie is inconsistent, going from one way to another with seemingly no reason. It looked amazing and I cannot wait to see how people are going to personalise their Defender and make it theirs. It really is an upgrade of an iconic classic, whilst being loyal to the past with its flat back, rounded front and rounded lights. When Alfie’s father the King dies suddenly, Alfie not only must prepare to ascend the throne but to also take up the mantle of Defender of the Realm that has been passed from one monarch to the next for centuries.

We truly believed the script we’d just written and sent off was pure story gold and we sat back and waited to be love-bombed by the producer. It turns out the Henry Eighth didn’t destroy the monasteries for religious reasons; he was just trying to hunt down a pack of hibernating werewolves who’d been lulled to sleep by the music!
