I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers. She has been shortlisted for the Booktrust Best Book Award and Queen of Teen, and Spies, Dad, Big Lauren and Me was selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club. Furious that he must suffer indignities such as attending school and doing chores, Loki struggles to be good. When Rikin isn’t drawing you’ll find him listening to the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, munching away at pizza whilst watching a movie, trying to talk to the birds and stray cats in his garden — or working at a primary school as a Year 6 learning support assistant.Climate change and global warming is a huge problem but this utterly fabulous and uplifting book tells children all about the new inventions currently being worked on by scientists, from insects as a new food source to making fuel from fatbergs. For me, humour is in the exaggeration of the everyday, and in the gap between how characters see themselves and how we as readers see them. A thoroughly entertaining read, enhanced by marvellous graphite illustrations, full of character and humour.
