I hope I can count on your wise counsel in a policy discussion that is certain to get rough.” My rating for this book was heading for another 4-Stars: I Really Liked It, until the "denouement", and what a scrambled mess that proved to be! Now I am quite unsure of what rating to give this book*. I will post this review without a rating while I ponder further. In the meantime, I can say that, again, the audiobook narration was very good and benefited from a slight downward change in the pace of delivery by Marin Ireland, compared to #1.I was thrown by this book as it started, it had the same couple as the last book and typically each book is a new couple. This one got old fast and I found myself rolling my eyes so many times. I hated how Seychelle was steam rolled over so many times, that basically the answer to issues that she brought up with Savage were, it's the club, it's none of your business, it's the way it it. She deserved better, especially as the club was wiling to use her talents and keep her in the dark about it. Then there was the whole BDSM side of things. I tend to read quite a few of those books, but this one was a bit much for me, more SM than anything. I was glad that Seychelle was able to help Savage deal with his darker side, but man, he needed to explain things to her better. Their whole communication system was broken and it took a lot for them to figure things out. I had fun,” Hayley says over her shoulder, her right hand reaching for the door handle. “Thanks for cheering me up.” The premise of this book is that Savage and Seychelle are in a relationship that has major problems because of the unequal emotional investment in openness and vulnerability they’re putting in. I love Feehan's books I just feel that lately most of her series have been bleeding the same storyline. The only one I noticed that is not is her newest series. Please note I'm writing the same review for Annihilation Road and Savage Road (books 6 and 7 in the Torpedo Ink series) based on the author's letter to readers in the front of each book explaining the relationship between the two books. As noted in that explanation, due to some of the dark subject matter, readers may read book 6 without reading book 7 given the dark elements in the later book. However, it is essentially two parts to one story arch, so I'm considering them together.
