Regardless, I was still so impressed with this book. There’s no way her car is drivable like this. My anger suddenly turns to panic. If her car took the worst of the hit, does that mean it was my fault, even if I had the right of way? The writing of this book was incredible. I read this in two sittings and absolutely flew through it – in fact, it could have been one sitting if I hadn't started it so late at night. The story and Scottie’s voice just immediately gripped me and I couldn’t put it down. With a fast pace, great dialogue and just so much fun, reading She Drives Me Crazy was a joy.

This is my consecutive fourth ARC where the theme is toxic relationships and have to say it's one of the ones that handles it best. This was not just a cutesy romcom as I expected it to be but also a much intense story of healing and moving forward. we were told Tally, the ex-girlfriend was toxic, but we were never shown why Scottie loved her in the first place, or how exactly was she toxic I hate that Tally has become a Candlehawk kid, but maybe I should have seen it coming. She was always obsessed with how things looked and who was doing the looking. Dating her felt like viewing my life through a photo filter. Sometimes I was swept up by how great we looked together; other times, I felt like the photo underneath wasn’t good enough on its own. Tally takes her place near me at the top of the key, keeping enough distance to stay open for a pass from her new point guard. But then, almost like she can’t help it, she glances at me.

I thought 2020 is THAT year for us gays, but it seems like from now on every year will be THAT year. I hurl the basketball like we’re playing dodgeball and I’m determined to take out their entire team. I feel one boiling second of satisfaction, but then— Scottie was TBH, kinda irritating. I found her extremely rude most of the time especially when she shouted at Irene multiple times. She is flawed yes, but this just makes her obnoxious. You would think, based on the fact that I’ve watched the Say Anything … boom box scene a million times, that I wouldn’t have bumblebees in my stomach when my cheerleader girlfriend reenacts it for me in the school parking lot. With brilliant character development and dynamics, an exploration of heartbreak, the effects of a toxic relationship and the importance of looking past preconceptions, Kelly Quindlen has created a story that will resonate with lots of teens, especially queer ones. The characters of She Drives Me Crazy are messy and flawed which just makes them all the more real. With nods to classic rom coms and expert trope usage, this book is perfect for anyone looking for some good teen fun, a lovely sapphic romance and expertly written characters. Plus Honey-Belle is the coolest name out there, and based on her personality, she is literally my dream girl. The classic, unavoidable, miscommunication trope (sigh). There was no reason for that, and the ex-drama that was randomly interwoven with that was also annoying and frustrating. I breathe in sharply. I know it’s not a good idea, but I can’t pass up this chance for a moment alone with her. Sure, okay. I try not to look at Tally now as she bounds down the court in her new gold jersey, but it’s like pretending the sun doesn’t exist. She pulls her lips into her mouth like she’s trying to keep a neutral expression, but I can tell she’s thrilled with how this game is going. It validates every reason she had for transferring to a school with a better basketball program, a school where she could finally be noticed.

Irene is the love interest and I really loved her character. She's the head cheerleader, perfectionist ice-queen. She was really sweet and I believe she's south-asian <3 Oh come on, Irene, put some feeling into it!” she chides. “Your girlfriend destroyed that game! Doesn’t she deserve a kiss?”

My first queer/lesbian book I’ve read and i can’t wait to read more. Our community i've never cared much about sports stories (unless it's a league of their own or something), but sapphic enemies-to-lovers fake dating between basketball star and cheerleader?? yes please. Scottie Zajac es una insegura jugadora de basquetbol tratando de reconciliarse con su ex-novia después de una reciente separación. Irene Abraham es una muy popular porrista tratando desesperadamente de ganar atleta del año para entrar en la universidad. Cuando accidentalmente chocan autos en el aparcamiento de la escuela, se encuentran forzadas a compartir auto por un tiempo, hasta que Scottie tiene una loca idea que podría beneficiarlas a ambas enormemente. El único obstáculo es que, necesitarán obviar el hecho de que se odian profundamente. One thing I also loved about the plot was the way that teens were portrayed. Honestly I don’t really notice when teens are portrayed in a meh or okay way (as in it would have to be really bad for me to notice) but I really felt like this book captured so many of the stressful aspects of going to school and thinking about how the rest of your life is gonna go, along with the other parts of being a teenager in the modern world. Of course, there were still some cliche parts, but that’s to be expected.
