First impressions.. Opening the box I was immediately drawn to 2 things. Firstly the colourway, I'm not usually drawn to any shoe because of the colours but the Lake Drive/Hazard Green combo just looks fantastic ! And then taking them out of the box they felt noticeably lighter, in fact 20g lighter which is a huge improvement on previous Nimbus shoes. But does lighter and good looking mean better ? Let's get into the detail.. The midsole retains the key features that many devotee's of the Nimbus range expect such as the forefoot and rearfoot GEL and gender specific technologies. In fact, let's just dive into the gender specific differences for a minute. Whilst I'm sure you don't me to spell it out, the male and female anatomies are different, and for that reason it should come as no surprise that the construction of a shoe is adapted for the male and female form. The 3D Construction technology and Trusstic System are therefore gender specific and accomodate the different foot shapes, bone structures and running strides of men and women. We also have the 10mm drop in the mens show and 13mm drop in the womens. You need support with overpronation, the ASICS Gel Kayano Lite 2 is the lightweight version of their flagship stability shoe. The Nimbus 24 is a significant landmark in the series. The N24 is much lighter and provides a more responsive, more enjoyable ride. However, the level of foot support is higher which may not appeal to everyone. Asics GT 2000 10

The area where the Nimbus 23 beats the Triumph 18 is its plusher underfoot feel which makes it feel more luxurious. The Gel Nimbus 23 was a really popular shoe, but 23 editions in, it was probably time for a bit of change. ASICS have placed a really modern, elastic mesh in the Gel Nimbus 24, especially in the tongue. The tongue is really long and stretchy which some people may not love.I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d say this about a Nimbus, but I almost had as much fun running in the Nimbus as in the Triumph. After 20minutes in the lab freezer, that score went up to 38.5N which is a bit of a jump by 39.5%. It may not be ideal if you want this shoe to last you all year somewhere you have hot summers and cold winters. I have an issue with the grip in the new ASICS lineup This, paired with the bottoming out in the forefoot makes me think that some of that midsole is already hitting the ground. Conclusion In the looks department, t he Nimbus 23 is in my opinion, hands down the best looking max-cushioned trainer. From teenagers just starting running, to experienced marathon runners, the Nimbus series appeals to a wide target market and you can be guaranteed to see dozens of pairs of Nimbus’ on your run along the banks of the Singapore River or around the Marina Bay.

Where the Nimbus 24 midsole improves on the 23 is with the 2 part foam, the top part being Flytefoam and the bottom part Flytefoam Blast+ for increased comfort and energy return with less weight. I found a real improved underfoot feel in the Nimbus 24, the FlyteFoam Blast+ is noticeably more cushioned and feels faster whilst still very much being a long run / multi-use shoe. We tested the women's Asics Gel Nimbus 24, which has a 13mm drop, while the men’s has a 10mm drop. This is a high drop but anyone who lands heel first when they run will benefit from this most. We liked this higher drop as it contributed to a softer landing and helped with creating a good level of motion while running.The Flytefoam in the midsole of the Nimbus 23 definitely feels less dense and more lively than in any previous version: it’s now closer to the bouncy, energetic Flytefoam Blast foam used in the Novablast. The outsole on the Nimbus 24 is solid. It grips well on dry roads and rainy conditions, but more importantly, it's impressively durable. The extra rubber is placed exactly where the shoe will receive the greatest impact, and we’ve seen no early signs of wear that suggest it's going to lose that good grippy feel. I still think the Triumph 18 is the overall better shoe because it’s more durable and I didn’t get any foot fatigue in it.
