Thousand Sons were some of the best Chaotic Space Marine models release before the jump to primaris. and boy are they some cool detailed models. This is… just OK. As far as being a value vs. MSRP goes it’s fine, but long-term you’re probably not going to use the Helbrute and the Havocs are more of a situational add to the army. The Chaos Space Marines notably don’t come with the new sprue to upgrade the unit to have a psyker or a heavy chainaxe – those will be options for the kill team – and so I might generally recommend passing on this box in favor of buying the individual units you’ll need. A heady mix of daemonic power and debased Astartes ceramite, this Battleforce is the ideal way to throw in your lot with the Warmaster and start scouring the galaxy for the keys to victory. You can use these to decorate the bases of your ogors, or, if you like, base them up to build a unit of these screeching horrors.Another force that was more popularised this year through Warhammer Imperium and this will help you double up on some of the units we got there.

So for the lineup of Battleforce boxes in 2022, we expected to see two Imperials, two Xenos, a “Wild Card,” and hopefully some kind of Chaos, perhaps Thousand Sons or Daemons. Turns out there look to be no Xenos boxes at all! Known for their stealth tactics and use of Cultist forces seeded and outfitted ahead of their arrival, Alpha Legion work well with most units thanks to being more difficult to hit from a distance, helping them close the gaps. The rules for the Alpha Legion tend to favor versatility and subterfuge, and they have several rules that can apply to Cultists by virtue of just being INFANTRY-keyworded, though you may find they don’t necessarily want to run a ton of cultists. An Interdiction Force often fights at the forefront of a major Space Marine assault. Comprising multiple Vanguard units and supporting armour, they emerge from concealed positions to engage the enemy at close range while their battle-brothers follow up behind them to move into position.As we said, there was a list of disproven rumors for this year’s Battleforces, but some of the armies included were pretty obvious, with Space Marines etc. For example, what would this do against a Knight army? If you’re counting on your Havocs to do all the heavy lifting then you’ve never built that kit (psst, you won’t have enough of any one specific gun like…melta or lascannons). So, if I were building out this list, I probably would skip on the Combat Patrol for now.
