There are just enough crazy supernatural deaths to keep you from falling asleep, and there’s the classic scene near the end where Susan’s breasts grow faces and rip someone’s guts out, but everything around these moments seem designed to make you not give a shit, and it is for this reason that I simply can’t recommend Mausoleum. In fact no, scratch that, because at least we managed to do it without getting our hands in the shot, which is more than can be said for this film. Some of the old residents that have been living here all their lives are fighting back to keep their home and be left in peace. With that out of the way, we are left with about 30 minutes of new movie, which consists of obnoxious Hollywood types sleazing on women and then dying in the most ridiculous, absurd ways possible. Hello, I’m gonna keep this short because since I last updated my blog (umm, in 2020), WordPress has changed how it works and I have neither the time not the inclination to figure out its new quirks and eccentricities.

I went in a bit blind, not really knowing what to expect and what I got was even better than I could have hoped! And don’t get that phrase stuck in your brain and not take a chance because I used the dreaded ‘R’ word. So many points I could raise, but in short it’s just like a very cheesy 80’s action film, full of cliche and hammy writing. Look at his body of work thus far; ‘The Forgotten Island,’ ‘Night Shoot,’ ‘Dead Girl Blues,’ Maggie’s Grave,’ The Perfect Victim,’ and ‘Satan’s Burnouts Must Die! I can see more open minded people who don’t share my sentiments about tropes like this, actually liking this.Little does Muriel know, saving this blob will not only spell her salvation, but a new hope for her future. This book was so good, the main character is a wee Scottish granny, facing unwanted changes to her village, and you're rooting for her the whole way through.

Had I known it was about an elderly woman becoming obsessed with a jelly creature and pretending it’s her husband - I would’ve never picked the book up.

In truth, the sheer number of things he’s able to get away with here are appalling to a satirical extent, (at least I’d like to tell myself that). Novels like this need to be held in high regard for the genre content they are, and for not being the overly written beat-for-beat novels that continually get shoved at us by big publishers. I have about 70 pages left, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it due to my personal issues with topics like that.

At its core, The Haar is a preemptive revenge tale, as Muriel has not been kicked out of her home, but she will do anything in her power to make sure she does not get removed. In the story, these young men set afire an old retired man after robbing him then laugh as he's trying to put himself out so they can collect filthy American money.
