Slice of Life: The series is pretty episodic overall, focusing primarily on the everyday activities the zookeepers engage in while caring for the dinosaurs, not unlike a behind-the-scenes zoo series.

Domesticated Dinosaurs: Dinosaurs are kept as attractions at zoos and animal sanctuaries like Enoshima Dinoland. Some dinosaurs like Sinornithomimus have even been bred for meat.Danica Davidson of Otaku USA praised the story, characters, and extra notes from Fujiwara, noting that " Dinosaur Sanctuarydoes a good job of making [dinosaurs] like animals with personalities, rather than monsters in a monster movie". [13] Jonathan Greenall of Comic Book Resources praised the tone and art style. Additionally, Greenall felt the series does a good job of describing how to care for animals. [14] J. Caleb Mozzocco of School Library Journal also praised the artwork and characters. Mozocco felt the plot was "[ Jurassic Park but] the park works like it wassupposed to". [15] Artistic License – Animal Care: Dinoland is apparently struggling to keep up with its bills so much that hiring even one more employee risks pushing them into bankruptcy, but it has at least eleven elephant-sized (or larger) animals (several of which are carnivores, which are far more expensive to feed than herbivores) and relatively few small ones. Realistically, it would be a massive drain for a small zoo to keep so many huge animals rather than downsizing to smaller species. Although it could be argued that non-avian dinosaurs would be less expensive to keep than birds and mammals, due to being mesothermic and thus requiring less food, but a small zoo being able to keep several of the larger ones would still be a bit of a stretch.

This richly detailed manga tells the story of a rookie zookeeper caretaking dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes, sure to delight dinosaur lovers of all ages. Alternate-History Dinosaur Survival: In this world, a population of non-avian dinosaurs managed to survive the K-Pg Extinction Event on an island, and in 1946, they were discovered by humans who helped their populations grow through breeding programs.Headbutting Pachy: Discussed in Chapter 14. Here dinosaurs are depicted according to the most current paleontological understanding. Thus they have feathers (even large theropods, that were not necessarily feathered, as rhino's and elephants also don't have hairs) and even the way they lay down, or move about, or eat, is thoroughly researched. This is also shown by intermezzo's from the consulting paleontologist, who explains his reasoning for some depictions. Ikuhana launched the manga in Hakusensha's Rakuen ( Le Paradis) magazine in February 2018. The first volume shipped in March 2021.Insufferable Genius: Shiranui. While he's incredibly competent in veterinary practice, he's also condescending, arrogant and mean-spirited. Heartfelt Apology: Kaidou, feeling guilty for the suicide of Suzume's father, gives one to Suzume once he tells her of the infamous Ichigo incident. In a unique spin on the usual takes on these matters, she doesn't hold it against him in the least. Also, the dinosaurs here are shown to be animals. Some eat meat, yes, but they are more than monsters - they are shy, or bond with carers. They develop gout because of kidey failure or have special dietary needs. This makes the dinosaurs not less interesting, but more interesting, as they are as complex and fascinating as current life on earth. Edutainment Show: There are notes from the manga's research consultant explaining some of the details in the story's portrayal of its dinosaurs, as are numerous placards in-universe showing real information about the dinosaurs. The manga takes a realistic viewpoint of the parks. It does show a dinosaur eating a deer carcass, fair warning. You watch dinosaurs hatch from eggs and be treated for medical conditions and everything felt plausible.
