Yes, I was originally sold on it by the plotline description and the number of five star reviews it had received, but if I had started to read the much smaller number of really negative reviews first, I would never have picked up the novel in the first place, and that would have been a shame. While maintaining a persona as a brilliant and kind lawyer, Jack makes his marriage to Grace seem perfect by forcing her to appear doting and lovely in public with his friends.

It had all the potential for a really exciting read and handled well, this could have been one of those "edge of the seat" all encompassing experiences that are becoming an increasingly rare occurrence in books I read these days.

An avid listener of Agatha Christie audiotapes, Millie has pretended to have a sleeping issue, but has actually been hoarding the pills to then pass along to Grace. Soon their family will grow when Millie, Grace’s little sister who has Down’s syndrome will come to live with them. But it's written in a way that keeps the pages turning, even if the plotting and details are a bit loose and the characterization not hugely complex.

Okay, actually it did get a tiny bit slow in the middle, but it could have just been my discomfort (super nail-biting unchiness) that made me want it to go faster so I could see what happened.

Since joining our circle of friends a month ago, I'm sure she's been told over and over again that Grace Angel, wife of brilliant lawyer Jack Angel, is a perfect example of a woman who has it all — the perfect house, the perfect husband, the perfect life. Though Grace has promised to visit Millie in the hospital on the way to the airport for their honeymoon, Grace feels guilty that she marries without her younger sister present. And while this is not completely unrealistic and I could believe he would go to such trouble to create his "fantasy", the mindless villainy of him, plus his penchant for showmanship, verges on a caricature. He and Adam met Rufus at the golf club a couple of weeks ago and invited him to join them in a game.
