Strangely, most pictures are of the simplest or most familiar dishes, while the ones that were the most complex or unfamiliar to me generally didn't have an accompanying photo or a description of the food at all. This is not a cookbook , I could use and I cannot think of anyone within my family or friends who would find it useful to cook with. Rather than just giving you a list of recipes, this book teaches you the techniques and methods of Chinese cooking.This and one from All Under Heaven, this one uses chili bean paste and the other doesn't, the version I had at the restaurant definitely had chili bean paste in it, so I chose this recipe. Additionally, the food photography seems not to actually match the dishes as described in the recipes, frequently featuring garnishes, ingredients or sauces not mentioned in the text.
