Well, the heroine thinks about the breadth of the hero's shoulders and the mature and muscled depth of his chest. She keeps thinking "how his hard and warm his body felt against hers in that brief moment when they collided, and she mentally shies away from the intimacy implied". The best smell in the world, Faith thought as she meandered through the woods, staring up at the captured sunlight and holding her secret happiness cradled deep in her chest, was Gray Rouillard. Faith lived for the glimpses of him she got in town, and if she was close enough to hear the deep, dark rumble of his voice, she trembled with joy. Today she'd gotten close enough to smell him, and he had actually touched her! She was still giddy from the experience. Let me start by saying, this is absolutely one of my all time FAVORITE Linda Howard books. I don’t know how many times I have read it both in print and audio format. The audio version is narrated by the very talented Natalie Ross who does a fantastic job!! She’s definitely one of my favorite narrators.

Returning home would mean searching for answers to questions from her past and it also meant facing the one man that she has loved for as long as she can remember. Would she be strong enough to stand up to him and the people who rejected her? Even before she got to the edge of the clearing where the summerhouse was, she could see the silver gleam of Gray's Corvette parked in front of it, and her heart began the familiar violent pounding. He was here! She slid cautiously behind the shelter of a big tree trunk, but after a moment she realized that she couldn't hear anything. There were no splashing sounds, no yells or shrieks or giggles. The sexual tension was off the charts. The best way to describe the sexy time in this book: RAW SENSUALITY. I liked this for what is was. It was a light hearted romantic suspense. It succeeded best where the heroine, Jaclyn, was trying to deal with her frustration with the hero Eric. I kept picturing this as a romantic comedy. The scene where she pitched a hissy fit at a wedding rehearsal was laugh out loud priceless. I would totally go see this at the movies.

The ending was a bit unclear. You had to guess a bit at motivations based on one scene that took place earlier in the book in the victim's POV. He had brushed past them then, pushing open the door and disappearing into the drugstore. Jodie stared after him for a few seconds, then turned her greedy eyes on Faith. "Let me have your shirt," she said.Lindsey took a look out the window at the lengthening shadows, and sat up with a squeal. "My God, I'm supposed to have dinner with the Moutons tonight! I'll never be able to get ready on time!" She scrambled from the bed and began grabbing up her scattered articles of clothing. No, I wasn’t. I’m still not.” Gray’s hard mouth curved into a humorless smile. “But threatening notes and dead cats aren’t my style. I fight my battles out in the open.” Howard has a new fan and a new follow. Highly recommend to anyone who’s of a certain age that would love to be able to pull the word, “microfiche”, out of their hat again lol.

Faith is dismayed to find the instant Grey shows up at her hotel door the adolescent love she felt as an innocent fourteen year old is still there. And much to Grey’s dismay he is instantly physically attracted to Faith. Faith and Grey dance around each other and their powerful & overwhelming mutual attraction. They eventually give into their attraction and it’s explosive!! Grey wants more but there are outside forces that stand in his way. He’s torn between his loyality to Mother and sister, and the hurt it will cause them "she is a Devlin" after all ....and his growing need to keep Faith as his own. The puzzling contradiction formed in his mind. She had been obviously reluctant to meet Sheriff Deese, but she had never revealed any such uneasiness in her dealings with himself. She’d been bold, provoking, maddening, frustrating, but she’d never shown the least hesitation about being in his company.

What he’d just had with Faith was as powerful and unstoppable as an avalanche, a fire that left him scorched and already needing to feel the flame again.He himself wanted her with a fierce need that both alarmed and disgusted him" It's too little for you," Faith replied, and was fiercely glad that it was. Gray had liked her shirt, had touched it, and she wasn't about to give it up.
