We follow their life-long love story from when they first meet and theirs is a really poignant part of the book. Though at times this was a bit real and hard to read about Covid pandemic times again, this was such a gorgeous read. Yes, this novel is set during the first few months of the Covid pandemic, but don't let that stop you from reading it, especially if you enjoyed the first in the series as much as I did. I suppose it’s ironic that I read this on my Kindle, since the emphasis is very much on reading real books - mostly second-hand, previously loved, with the different smells and feelings associated with different styles of book.

I loved Lost For Words so I was looking forward to this but I’m afraid I found it very disappointing. I work in the library and read over 100 books a year in various genres but still would not be so presumptuous as to think I could recommend books to people I don’t know. This is a time when, pre-vaccine, people who caught Covid were extremely ill, when NHS staff were exhausted, when other key workers such as supermarket workers and public transport staff daily put themselves at risk and when in general, most people were genuinely terrified.

While the world around us changes rapidly, the emotions remain the same: fear, loneliness, and a longing for connection. It gives the reader total immersion into the world, but makes it quite difficult to describe what happens. It's filled with the recommendations that they provide - books for loneliness, books to scare you, books for being normal or books to travel somewhere new.

It was one of my favourites that year, so it was great to catch up with Loveday and Nathan again even though it’s been 5 years.

I come from Whitby and know York very well and there were countless mistakes regarding both places which really annoyed me and prevented me believing that’s where they were supposed to be. On the whole I found this book to be an uplifting read but there were times I had to put it down and take a moment, thanks to a couple of heart-shattering moments. I loved the concept of the book pharmacy - so much so that I am trying to figure out if there might be a way of putting into practice something similar in our local library!

A love letter to books, so many are mentioned and how they might help with various emotional states. This beautifully written novel is a tribute to all independent booksellers who have always been creatively bringing readers and books together to comfort, educate, transform, escape, remember, hope, and dream. By the way, you can find many book recommendations that will keep me going after I manage to pull myself out of this enchanting world.As certain as I have always been that I can be alone without being lonely, opening the covers, turning the pages, I know that I will find comfort in reading a book.
