I've been a rabbid Sonic fan since 1991. Consumed everything about Sonic, even all the comics, anime, etc. I've owned and played every game. UsurperKing Another Sonic Chronicles enjoyer! I also liked it when I was younger but I’m afraid to try it again because I’m not sure it will hold up lol. And yeah, as a Saturn owner and starving Sonic fan for essentialy 5 years during that period, I can't overstate what a revelation Sonic Adventure was at the time. Of course I got the Dreamcast and SA on launch day and I was so, so happy. Nowadays I'm very aware of how janky it is but its still got so much charm and things to love about it. That first action stage, running across the bridge and the camera spins around while the whale smashes the bridge behind you? Its just incredible. I'll never get tired of that. If it is trolling, its not working because I'm not in the least bit upset and as soon as the posts start to waste my time (for example the same user tagging me 5 times within an hour like above!) I just politely say goodbye and stop posting. No bother! Life's too short to get annoyed by things we can't control. I hope for their sakes they aren't trolling because they are wasting their own time. I'd much rather just assume they are an overenthusiastic fan who's excited for the game. That's something I can relate to a lot better Dreamcast launch then leading into Xbox, Gamecube, PS2. I've owned and enjoyed most consoles since then, but its not the same, the generational leaps don't feel as impressive, more like minor iterations on the last one. Speaking of which, I'm completely with you on the PC side of things - my family got a low end 486 (with DOS 6.22 and Win 3.11) in the mid 90s for my school work, but it could play incredible "3d" games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3d, Terminal Velocity, Screamer which felt as good as many early Playstation titles. And then like you mention, over time I saw more and more big "Playstation" titles get PC conversions that were actually superior. Even though my poor little 486 couldn't handle them, it game me future incentives to keep upgrading my PC hardware whenever I could.

I was only kidding that Sega would hire me but at the very least I hope they see and like the games I make, and it helps them see how much people love these old titles. Theres a small possibility Sega Europe may distribute one of my original titles. They are one of a handful of companies that at least asked to be sent prototypes of it when its ready. That would blow my mind lol. I already can't believe I'm making games that run on Nintendo hardware!

Anyhow, got origins to see what the fuss was all about recently and wasn't entirely convinced with Sonic 1 and CD. Still, I WAS having fun so I kept playing and Sonic 2 blew me away. What a fun game! I immediately replayed it to get all the chaos emeralds because I enjoyed it so much. Went on to Sonic 3&K with some apprehension that I wouldn't enjoy it as much as 2. And I didn't. dudujencarelli Ah see now I can agree with that. Super Mario Land 1 & 2, and the Warioland games, are FAR more suited to 8bit portable play than the screen crunched Game Gear conversions of the Master System games. I do feel that the Master System games (ignoring Blast) hold up well to any NES Platformer though. (Note I didn't say "beat". Mario 3 and Kirby on NES are masterpieces) I remember the NES was on display in shops like Dixons and Children’s World, so I was familiar with the classics (and wanted them to replace my Speccy) but once the Mega Drive launched that was all I wanted. I did play on a SNES a couple of times but it never impressed me enough to want one over the MD (it still feels sluggish to this day but that’s probably 50hz games). With hindsight and having played the SNES since, it’s a great system but it just never seemed as popular in my part of the UK, though I believe it actually eventually outsold the Mega Drive. I'm developing 4 proper commerical games for Switch/PS4/Xbox/PC (in different genres and differing levels of complexity... staggered releases as 2 of them tie into movies) but also 2 Sonic fan games (possibly 3 now as I'm adapting an old platforming engine I made previously to be suitable for use making 16bit style sonic games too). Of course as they are fan games they'll have to be PC only, unless Sega wants to hire me! haha. The "8bit Origins" one I'm mostly just doing because its something I WISH Sega would do but I've waited long enough and they seem like they are never going to bother. Honestly the fan ports/decompilations were always going to be superior based on mods and options alone, but the fact the Origins menus and play options just arent useful enough and they wont allow some of the best bonuses to just be features even when they had the chance to rectify it is pretty lame. Make S1 no spindash, emerald 7 and & Tails mode options!

The Rush games on DS and Rivals games on PSP are both pretty good. Not amazing or anything, but fun. I also enjoy Lost World on Wii U / PC more than most people seem to. Its similar to Mario Galaxy, but nowhere near as good. Its a 7/10 if you can find it cheap. Many would argue Sega actually had the idea before Nintendo, as running around spheres & cylindars with gravity pulling you to them was one of the concepts of Sonic Xtreme, the cancelled Saturn game! lol. Amy is great fun to play as, the Game Gear feels like a cheap addition. For the price of the add on, was OK, but overall it feels like little care and attention went into expanding the 8-bit aspect of this collection. With Origins, sure, as a fanboy, theres a million things I could complain about. But its also the best way to play some of my favourite games, and its opening them up to a new audience in a way that is presented well enough to win over new fans like yoruself. And playable Amy in classic Sonic is something I've wanted since 1993. So do I concentrate on the fact I don't like the new music or they didn't include a few roms of games that I already have sat on my hard drive and a million ways to play them... or do I celebrate with joy the fact that people are saying nice things about Sonic again? I agree this is very frustrating, especially because of teh context that the retro engine itself was designed from the ground up to have super crisp pixels, and its only Sega's (very basic, not great) menu system thats ruining it. I bought the original release on PC and to begin with, the pixels were unforgivably fuzzy... but thats since been fixed with a fan mod.One of the games I'm making for switch is a Metroidvania, starring Hazel Witch, the little girl with purple hair in my avatar! As for there not being bugfixes, perhaps its just my own playstyle but many of the issues people mentioned were never thigns that happened to me. There were occasional minor things that didn't work quite right or feel how I expected them to in the original release, and all of these have been improved. Again, not trying to take away the annoyance of others who encounter problems that I haven't had effect me. But its definitely had some bug fixes and tweaks, mostly the stuff that was broken by the retro engine being broken by Segas menu system (again. Why they insisted on this rather than a beautiful in-engine era appropriate menu like Mania, I'll never know) As for DKC style on portable... sure Blast looks hideous, but lets not pretend the Donkey Kong Land games didn't look like a muddy incomprehensible mess on the original Gameboy. 8bit systems just shouldn't use pre-rendered sprites, they don't have the colour pallette. A shame, as the level deisgn and controls of the DKL games is decent. Not a patch on Donkey Kong '94 though - again, an 8 bit game designed for the platform it was released on, and one of the best of all time IMO.
