While Noddy is quite happy to be a toy, the citizens of Toyland are not sure that he actually is one. The production was written and directed by David Wood with scene and costume designs by Susie Calcutt. Even today, 60 years after his 'birth' and just over 40 years after his creator's death, he is probably the main character to be associated with the name Enid Blyton. The illustrator most associated with Noddy is Harmsen Van der Beek – Pictures by Beek is even written in the train’s steam on the covers of the books he illustrated – but he only illustrated seven of the twenty-four main books.

The First Editions of these book collections are not noted in the books, but the first issues in 1953 only have 'Sampson Low' as publisher - later issues were Sampson Low, Marston. Judging by the cover they’re some sort of musical people, and I’m sure I will discover more as I read. Their background, style, and influences often shine through in their writing, making each book a unique experience. Moving on to the post 1953 books, and although the illustrator(s) change back and forth regularly the style does not. With no understanding of gravity or of the need for roof supports, this is perfectly logical to him.

Condition: Used some wear excellent condition the cover has wear but the book inside is excellent with wear just at the end of the spine. Noddy being associated with small children's reading has led to "Noddy" being sometimes used as an adjective meaning "petty or trivial" (compare with " Mickey Mouse"), for example, in computer programming: " This simultaneous linear equation subroutine crashes out on the Noddy case when n = 1, but otherwise it works. Beek died in 1953, and so from book 8 onwards there were four other artists including his assistant Peter Wienk. This is a huge section, with many more picture story books as well as recreational and educational books that encourage children to count, paint, tell the time, and even learn to read music!

Everything else stayed the same, or, changed in the same manner as before, re the colours and the passengers on the train. Mr Tootle promises to have it pulled out by the garage but it isn’t done by Noddy’s bed time and so he goes home without his car. I’m only talking about the main 24 book series (1949-1963), here, though it appears that few few of the other Noddy books were ever reprinted at all.
