Finally, while your slicer should automatically have this in place when you select its PLA profile, it’s still worth mentioning that another thing you will need to pay attention to when setting the fan speed is to ensure that the initial layer fan speed is set to 0%, as giving the first layer enough time to adhere firmly to the build plate is essential for a successful print. ColorFABB PLA : One of the best PLA filaments out there, colorFABB is a PHA-enhanced, lightweight filament designed for premium 3D printing. It boasts a jaw-dropping tolerance of ±0.1 mm and comes in a variety of colors, including colors on demand made to user specification. You’ll have to pay for all these features, though; a spool costs about twice as much as Hatchbox, and you’ll get less product – 750 grams vs. 1,000 grams, respectively.

Heated Versus Unheated Print Beds: Most 3D printers heat the print bed to improve first-layer adhesion. No matter which slicer you get, the app writes all of the settings and commands in G-code, a command language that all FDM printers understand. The resulting G-code is saved in a file specific to your printer. Since different printers have different print volumes, temperature capabilities, and other features, using G-code that wasn’t specifically compiled for your printer could be dangerous. Sanding our prints was easy and the filament takes paint well . Soluble Filaments: PVA (polyvinyl acetate) and HIPS (high-impact polystyrene) are popular choices for support materials on dual-extruder printers. PVA dissolves readily in water while HIPS dissolves in limonene. HIPS is the better choice when using high-temperature filaments like nylon but emits toxic fumes during printing.
