Waxes, sealants, coatings… oh my! The paint protection industry is evolving every single day. New technology is pushing out new products faster and faster, and consumers now have so many options it can be a bit overwhelming. Today we are going to talk about one of those options, Gyeon CanCoat. Chemical resistance. Ive tested this a bit and sprayed on undiluted APC (around 12 ph), aggitated and rinsed. It had very little effect on the coating. Gyeon claims that Can Coat should be fully cured within 24 hours and it is best to avoid strong chemicals during the first week after application. Can Coat may be topped with Gyeon Cure if you wish. I recommend removing the sprayer from the bottle and cleaning it out with water after each use so you can re-use it. Store the bottle in a cool area with the cap secured in between uses. I want to start by saying Gyeon recently released its Evo line, which includes a seemingly improved formulation of CanCoat. But for the sake of this discussion I will only mention the original formula. Gyeon's CanCoat EVO offers more durable performance, improved visual enhancement, and hydrophobic properties - all thanks to the updated EVO formula. It remains as easy to apply as it used to, now featuring even easier wipe off.

I have applied it outside with some issues on top panels (roof, hood) acting a bit worn off after a short period of time. Side panels were fine. Issue is its been applied in late fall with low temps and humid enviroment. It doesnt take long to cure (about 3h) but I still advise you do 2-3 coats on these panels and wait for warmer weather to do so or keep it in a garage if you can.

Is it a Coating or a Sealant?

In anyone's opinion did I not apply this right ? Should I have used Gyeon prep instead of bilt hamber paint cleanser ? You should apply Gyeon Q² CanCoat EVO in a dry place out of direct sunlight. In all cases, prepare the surfaces you are going to treat in the normal way (wash > decontaminate > polish), and then do a wipe down with Gyeon Q²M Prep to ensure that they are spotlessly clean. For best results, spray Gyeon Q² CanCoat on to either the supplied microfibre towel or a PB Super Buffing Towel and immediately wipe it over a single panel to spread a thin, even film of product. Then refold the towel and continue buffing to fully remove the film and reveal an intense streak-free shine. Alternatively, mist a Meguiar's Even Coat Microfiber Applicator Pad with Gyeon Q² CanCoat EVO and wipe a thin, even film of product over a single panel at a time before buffing off with either the supplied microfibre towel or a PB Super Buffing Towel. Either way, you should aim to complete all of the buffing off within 1-2 minutes, i.e. before the coating begins to harden. Gyeon Q² Can Coat EVO is the easiest coating to apply you will experience. It is also the best value for money product to protect or maintain your ceramic coated car. Its 200ml size allows you to coat or re-apply it over 10 to 15 times!

Gyeon Wet Coat is a “spray and rinse sealant”. You can apply the product according to the following instructions: Method 1 Nice write up Zach. CanCoat is a great product. Probably my favorite protection from the current Gyeon line. That includes Gyeon Syncro which has been underwhelming for me. But that is another story for another time. CanCoat is quite versatile and for me it exceeded the longevity and durability claims which Gyeon claims to be roughly 6-9 months.

Application

I didn't seem to have any problem applying it and the areas that I did do (bonnet and rear boot/bumper) looked pretty good afterwards. The car was then left in the garage overnight and not taken outside for 24 hours. Moments after applying CanCoat to this BMW it had begun to rain. I immediately began to see very good hydrophobic behavior (water beading).

Gyeon Tire is also amongst our favourite tyre dressings, SiO2 based it lasts the longest and gives a deep wet gloss. Really there aren't any products in the entire Gyeon range we wouldn't hesitate to recommend.It still retains that versatility while making for an excellent choice for a maintenance topper a year down the road on a coating. It works with any coating. You may like the idea of a paint coating, but you may be intimidated by the application process. Or maybe you simply don't have the time to allow your vehicle to cure for 12-24 hours before driving it. GYEON knows that just because you're busy, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to enjoy extreme water beading and that's why they developed GYEON Q2 CANCOAT EVO! Outdoor Friendly. Meaning it can be applied outside but not in direct sun and avoid wet wet weather for the first 24 hours as it will affect the cure time (ie dew, rain). This will be a big hit for those that don't have access to a garage as it applies to all of the Gyeon coatings. One thing mentioned in the included maintenance book, is to apply Gyeon Cure as a precaution if planning to leave it outside. For example Cancoat is the most expensive and labor intensive way to coat a car over a set time period of 3 to 5 yrs compared to other using your term, traditional coatings, which for most long lasting durability being one of the primary reasons to coat a car.

However, I have discovered a more effective way of applying the product which improves the performance and durability. Here’s how: Method 2 First off prep work. As with any product its best to apply to a washed, deconed, clayed and polished surface. For polish you can use whatever you like. You can use the Gyeon primer but be aware it needs to cure for 12-24h before you apply Cancoat which is a waste of time in my world. If you want to use a primer product then use Carpro essence (3h cure time) or better yet TAC system primer (1h cure), but really any paint cleanser or abrassive polish will do just fine. Ensure your exterior surfaces are clean, dry and free from contamination; so wash thoroughly and dry. Clay your car if required prior and we strongly suggest you wipe over with GYEON Prep to remove all traces of old wax, residue, polish or oils. Bad news is that about 15 hrs after applying it started to rain a little and 24 hrs after the second coat the rain got heavier. I was hoping for 24 hrs without rain to allow it to fully cure. Simply spray onto the attached microfibre and wipe until you achieve full gloss. That is how easy it is to apply Q² CanCoat EVO! Now in its EVO form to provide you with a more durable yet easy to apply SiO2 based coating.

Applied can coat at the weekend . Full paint cleanse and machine polish . I used Bilt hamber paint cleanser. Not sure if I should have splashed out on Gyeon prep. Anyway I then applied can coat . left 2 hrs and applied second coat . Simply spray onto a microfiber towel and wipe until you achieve full gloss. That is how easy it is to apply Q² CanCoat EVO! Now in its EVO form to provide you with a more durable yet easy to apply SiO2 based coating. CanCoat applied in not the most ideal scenarios can serve as an exceptionally strong sealant. But applied properly like a coating it can act like a hybrid coating (9 months chemical resistance) or in two layers pass as an actual coating.
