The newspaper described the queen's outfit as a white chiffon dress with a bodice embroidered with orange California poppies, California's state flower. Eventually a peach hue was selected as it had to be bright enough to stand out against the dark backdrop of the stadium, but also couldn't be a colour associated with any of the competing nations. I read this beautiful book after finishing her later book The Other Side of the Coin and was disappointed at how much repetition there is between the two books. She also designs most of the queen's wardrobe, including hats, but always with input from the queen. And not simply the dress she’s wearing but the shoes, gloves, jewelry, medals and other accessories and, most important, her hats.
