Rovina’s art style was a perfect choice for this book, it really encapsulates the dark side of Cardan and his group bringing the stories to life.They got to be cruel and selfish, to preen in front of mirrors and poison apples, and trap girls on mountains of glass. He is a Cruel Prince because he has been raised up in it, instructed in its nuances, honed through its application. As of now, I've read four books by Holly Black and every single time I'm left amazed, not by the plot twists (although we all know that she excels at them), I'm left amazed by her writing.

And sure, they wound up in barrels studded with nails, or dancing in iron shoes heated by fire, not just dead, but disgraced and screaming.It reads almost like a series of short stories, but they are all interconnected and each one unveils details about Cardan's life and background. Cardan is such a fun character and reading from his perspective provided all new insight into his decisions and motivations. Each chapter is paired with lavish and luminous full-colour art, making this the perfect collector’s item to be enjoyed by audiences both new and old.

We get to see Locke, and his empty house and even emptier heart, teach Cardan the word “cruel” on every page. This story takes you back into the world of The Folk of the Air series and brings a new story to life, filled with beautiful illustrations and great storytelling. In an interview with EW Black said "I planned a novella to go with the Folk of the Air series centered on Cardan, but I realized I couldn’t do justice to his story until the trilogy was over.

One of my favourite parts was the illustrations that came with the book which made me fall in love with the characters all over again (and grin like a fool when it showed Cardan obsessing over Jude being a mortal). she was like alright lemme take your favourite YA bad-boy-with-tragic-past and decide to publish a novella about him with GORGEOUS artwork. Although, despite its short length, I will say that I absolutely adored the tale of Cardan’s ‘inconvenience’. How Cardan begins to notice Jude more and more, developing feelings for her without being able to identify what they are.At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. As he removed his shirt and sank to his knees, as he fisted his hands and tried not to cry out when the strap fell, he burned with hatred. This story within a story links so much of the book together and I loved it as I figured this out as I read.
