Today I want to give you a Salacious Players Club series review by Sara Cate. These books have been taking booktok by storm and I have to say it’s one of my favorite contemporary romance series. I just finished reading the third book in the series and I can’t wait for Mercy to come out in August. I like that we have so much variety in the books and I look forward to reading more from Sara Cate in the future. I highly recommend this series and I’ll give the series as a whole a 4 stars, 3.5 peppers, and 2 tissues. So I have to start off by saying the first book in this series 'Praise', unfortunately did nothing for me. But I think it just showcases that its perfectly normal and okay that you might not care for one book by an author and you might absolutely love another, even in the same series. Not every book is for everyone. Even if you love the tropes and themes and the author. And that's okay. I think we forget that often. It's was the character connection for me that made a world of difference between the first book and this one. I couldn't connect with the first books MC's, while Garrett and Mia captivated me right away.

This series is in the running for my favorite series of the year, and we are only halfway through. The emotions that Sara Cate evokes... through the physical and emotional connections between the characters... I am so enthralled. I could not put this story down. Mia and Garrett have such a complex relationship. It was so well built and I was lost in their roller coaster ride of a situation. I’m not mad at him or want to fight with him. I wish I could tell him, in more words than I expressed last night, just how much he means to me." Garrett is one of our Salacious Club owners and his specialty is voyeurism. One night when he is doing some "research" on some cam girl sights, he comes across a face he is all too familiar with. His 23-year-old stepsister, Mia. He has seen her as childish and annoying in the past and since there is a 15-year age gap between them, they don't have much in common. He can't stop himself from talking to her through a private chat and now he is too curious to make it a one-time thing. I loved Mia and Garrett. Sara Cate can write chemistry between the love interests so well and their chemistry was palpable. I could feel it. Here’s the thing. I shouldn’t be rating this. It doesn’t meet my criteria, since I only read 50% of it. I normally only rate if I read at least 80%. However.This one follows Garrett and his step-sister, Mia. Mia came in to his life when she was just 8 and he was in his 20's. Although they didn't technically grow up together, any time they were in the same room they didn't get a long. Until one day, Garrett goes searching for some fun watching cam girls and his now 23 year old step sister tis the girl he finds online. The story, the conflicts, the growth, the ending are all perfect. I loved this book a lot and it solidified Sara Cate for me as an author who I will automatically read anything she writes because it always delivers. Mercy Book Review

Meanwhile, Emerson is an emotionally unavailable man who is very clear about what he desires physically and isn’t afraid or ashamed to go for it. Emerson is a dominant man who works through his emotional issues in this book and I am here for it. Everything comes full circle in this book and I loved seeing an empowered woman embrace her sexuality and a lost and misunderstood man finally be free to be himself. I would say the theme for this book is heavy in self acceptance and I absolutely loved it. We don’t get the same personalities, we don’t get the same body types, we don’t get the same conflicts. rounded up because I feel bad, I guess lol. This was okay, but I think it was more of an "it's not you, it's me" situation...

I have been wronged. I was out moraled. I can deal with a lot when it comes to taboo romances. Birthday girl? Loved that shit. Age gaps? I can do it. Step siblings? Sure I guess, AS LONG AS THERE ISN’T A SIXTEEN YEAR AGE GAP AND OUR MALE LEAD KNEW HIS LITTLE SISTER SINCE SHE WAS EIGHT. AND SHES A VIRGIN. WHY. Sara Cate is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary, forbidden romance. Her stories are known for their heart-wrenching plots and toe-curling heat. Living in Arizona with her husband and kids, Sara spends most of her time working in her office with her goldendoodle by her side. The first book in the series is Praise. In Praise we follow Emerson Grant and Charlie. Charlie is Emerson’s son’s ex-girlfriend who goes to Emerson’s house to get her half of the deposit on her and her ex’s apartment. After a mishap of mistaken identity and an awkward conversation, Emerson decides to give Charlie a job as his assistant. Though neither of them could know how attracted they would be to each other. Warm- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.

The second book in the Salacious Players Club series is Eyes on Me. First things first, this book has a taboo relationship, Garrett and Mia are step siblings. There is also like a 12 year age gap in this book between Garrett and Mia. Anyways I’m kind of rambling now & it’s two am so I really should go to bed, but this was just such a let down. There’s also a smattering of pretty negative commentary about women (“they’re catty bitches, most women are mean to each other and that’s why Mia doesn’t have women friends”) a weird comment about “skinny shaming” and after what felt like (to me, I could be wrong) a shallow dive into Garret’s depression, the reader is informed that Garret is ready to have a baby w/ Mia bc he’s been on antidepressants x therapy for a year, and also spent that year proving “that he had everything under control” which feels like not a great metric to measure mental health?? Like require control and perfection all the time feels…not great? In the last two weeks, my stepsister has gone from being the pesky little girl I watched grow up into the only person on the earth that I want to see when I open my eyes in the morning." This story took a turn that I wasn't expecting (See TWs). When the 3rd act conflict hit, I was super disappointed that it seemed so predictable, after a story that was so unique and then.... Sara Cate had a much bigger meaning to convey. I was crying at the end of this and I was stunned that this sexy little voyeur tale had so much more to give. I hope you will give it a go.
