When we’re talking about a sport where stability and firmness are a must, the outsole is something you want to be able to rely on. A shoe that doesn’t count with a firmly gripping outsole simply won’t work for squash, as the strength and spontaneousness required for each motion are likely to take you off balance otherwise.• Etiquette: Squash is a sport that is played in a very specific court. This means that the shoe’s outsole is no longer related to only your performance, but also the court. The space of the court is pretty limited, so the state of the court means everything during a match. Thus, etiquette covers what you should and shouldn’t wear inside the box. For the sake of the court, it’s expected that all players use a non-marking rubber outsole when playing. The best practice also involves not bringing dirty shoes in the court or cleaning them before entering. Because of this, it’s recommended that you use your squash shoes for this purpose only, as using them outside the box will get dirt on them that you may potentially leave in the court.Something as simple as stepping on some grease can “contaminate” your shoe – this not only will make you slip in the court, but it may also make other people slip who use the court after you, as the grease may adhere to the court. Keep in mind that we are referring to this as etiquette and the best practice to follow, but in multiple gyms, these are very strict rules. Naturally, if you want the best, you have to pay for them, so if you can afford those and you are serious about your squash, then we recommend you give them a second look. One downside of these shoes is they’re a bit narrow. Asics shoes in general are on the narrow side, but these feel even a little bit narrower than most.

Junior Squash Shoes

These shoes are undoubtedly the reigning champ on the PSA World Tour at the moment. If I could recommend a shoe purely on looks and popularity then these would comfortably be at the top of the list. One thing that’s really apparent, is the shoes I’ve worn on my right foot have easily got many more potential months of use left in them. If Eye were able to make the material around the toes more robust, then these shoes would be much longer lasting overall. With this in mind, if you don’t drag your toes, you’ll actually find these shoes to be really durable – the grip underneath all the shoes has lasted throughout the entire period of using them, and the material/fabric inside the shoe is sturdy and hasn’t shown any signs of breakage either. A genuine classic, the Hi-Tec Classic has been around since the 1970’s and was the shoes that got Hi-Tec up and running.

Keep in mind that there is more to supporting your joints than the outer part of the shoe. Look for good supportive cushioning so that all of your joints are protected from the impact of running and moving on the court. What should I look for in a shoe that has a good grip on the floor?

 

The shape of the shoe, arching slightly upwards towards the front, helped us to stay on our toes and avoid feeling ‘flat footed’ If you are not able to have traction on the court, you will not be able to play at your best. Look for a shoe that has a blend of synthetic and gum rubber so that the sole will give you the traction you need. Wear and tear. Squash shoes make a huge difference on the squash court – they’re arguably the most important piece of kit in your bag. It’s also highly recommended that you replace your squash shoes on a somewhat regular basis to help avoid injury – wearing overly-worn shoes can present a number of serious risks to squash players.

The reason I’m including them on this list is SO many pro players use them that it would feel almost weird not to mention these.

What are they like on court?

Finally, they feature ‘ V-tough‘ material around the toes, which is marketed as being stronger than traditional PU materials For one thing, I feel like that will damage or dirty the squash courts. But more importantly, I feel like that will negatively impact how well my shoes grip the court. I don’t want to risk getting injured, even over something small like that.
