Sowing: mixed into seed compost, perlite helps to retain moisture and aerate the soil - allowing delicate seedling roots to flourish without becoming too damp When using PLANT!T Perlite you can achieve faster germination and striking of cuttings due to superior air to water ratio. You can use PLANT!T Perlite to aid in the breaking up of heavy soils. Simply mix with potting soil and it will keep the soil loose and light.

Perlite standard is lightweight, density approximately 100kg/m 3. It is supplied in 100 litre bags by Sinclair Professional. Native Trees – Plant deliveries are to Melbourne metro area only. This allows air and water to reach roots aiding nutrient uptake and improving plant health and growth. PLANT!T Perlite is easy and safe to handle and odourless whilst also being lightweight and simple to use. PLANT!T Perlite can be used for soil conditioning – increasing aeration and drainage in heavy hard to manage soils; repairing/laying down lawns – giving additional aeration and drainage when raked into spiked holes; and planting trees and shrubs – loosening and aerating soil to encourage root development. Hardwood – We only sell products made from Forest Stewardship Council approved timber. The following products are made from a hardwood called Shorea. It is extremely hard wearing and is also used to make boats. We recommend oiling all timber furniture to maintain longeivity, especially if it is kept out in the full sun. This is what makes it an excellent addition to compost or soil, as it boasts exceptional water absorption in its expanded form. In turn, perlite helps to regulate soil moisture for growing seeds, cuttings and established plants either directly in the ground or in pots.

Where and how to buy perlite

So I used sharp sand. The pots were incredibly heavy, and I thought they must be getting far too wet under the mist propagator, but the cuttings rooted well. On potting on the compost is very fine - the sand has intermingled with the multi purpose to create a very fine media (maybe I rubbed it together well when mixing it, I can't remember). So it does seem to have done a good job. Dunno if I will damage more roots at potting on though - the mix doesn't fall off the roots as easily as Perlite. Drainage: plants like succulents and cacti, which are used to living in dry soil, can benefit from a perlite blend as it will introduce an effective drainage system.
