The aroma and flavour is clean and more like a pilsner than a bottom-fermented beer, while there’s low bitterness and only a touch of sourness that sits nicely with its fruity flavours. The body and flavours aren’t quite as impressive as some of the other beers in this list. But the mix of caramel malts and fruit in the aroma make up for its shortcomings in the mouth. Yes” is Manchester brewery First Chop’s 0.5% pale ale, which sits alongside full-strength beers in its range.

Hops and hemp feel like natural bedfellows so it’s no surprise to see CBD-infused NA beers coming onto the market. Its low-alcohol offering has an amazingly creamy mouthfeel. The aroma and the flavour aren’t bad either. Decent.

Drinks under 0.5% ABV aren’t covered by licensing law in the UK. They won’t make you drunk and have a similar percentage of alcohol as foods such as bananas and burger rolls. So they’re fine to drink when you’re off the booze and want an alcohol-free life. Lager is made with a yeast that sinks to the bottom of the fermenter and works at low temperatures, which usually results in a cleaner taste than ale. Expect a clean aroma with a touch of pepper and caramel. Plus an uncluttered flavour that weaves in a balanced bitterness. Ghost Ship Alcohol Free pours a clear amber/copper colour, with a frothy but fleeting head. Citrus dominates on the nose, which is unsurprising as Adnams uses Citra hops with aplomb, so grapefruit and lemon zest aromas abound. A touch of grassy-ness too, but on the whole if you’re a fan of fruits of the Rutaceae, you’ll be happy! Weisse Alkoholfrei” is the low-alcohol version of its popular “Original” wheat beer. With tones of ripe banana and clove in the flavour and aroma and low bitterness, this is a great choice for those who don’t usually drink beer.

As you’d expect, the citrus flavours continue on from the aromas, though the bitterness is a bit toned down. There is a touch of sweetness which I don’t remember being present in the alcoholic version, but overall this is certainly a pale ale in the time-honoured style. Instead, they use techniques and ingredients that produce very low levels of alcohol – around 0.5% ABV (about the same alcohol content as a ripe banana). There are now more choices of non-alcoholic stout, alcohol-free porter and brown ale without alcohol. If you like your beers fruity and stuffed full of new-world hops, you’ll love Big Drop’s Paradiso IPA – especially if you liked brewery’s original pale ale.This doesn’t stand out in the flavours, but it does include an interesting mix of dark malts and fruit featuring coffee, roasted barley, cherry and grapefruit. In the style of a milk stout, this beer offers a gorgeous, diverse aroma featuring coffee, cocoa, liquorice and a touch of dried fruit.

An interesting yet clean and balanced flavour, which balances bitterness with a smidge of sweet esters tops things off. Akin to a fruity and malty British ale, it features and exceptional aroma with fig, raisin, sage and baked orange mingling with smokey malts and toffee. With a sweet aroma, a luxurious mouthfeel and complex fruity/malty flavour, it’s a cut above the mass-produced alcohol-free lagers that have flooded the market in recent years. Sour beers aren’t to everyone’s taste. But Big Drop’s Double Strike will appeal to fans of most beer styles, plus those who don’t normally drink beer. isn’t Guinness’s first non-alcoholic beer (see Kaliber and Pure Brew). But it’s the Dublin brewery’s most eagerly awaited.There’s some classic flowery, spicy and fruity hop aromas and a light body with gentle carbonation.
