Cat Kid Comic Club is a spinoff of the incredibly well written children's comic Dog Man, by Dav Pilky, which focus on children expressing themselves though comics in their own style. There’s the main story of Cat Kid and Molly teaching Flippy’s adopted frog children how to make comics, and then some other short stories scattered about, made by the kids. Melvin and Naomi often take the spotlight through their arguments and pursuits of getting published, but all the kids get a chance to shine by showing off their own collaborative comics, which also have ongoing stories and evolve throughout the whole series.

I read this with my ten year old daughter, but my twelve year old kept coming to listen to it as well. The H.A.C.K.E.R. Brothers were intrigued by Naomi's comic, and they ask her to join the group. But Melvin takes over her decisions and declares that he will protect Naomi at all times. The two siblings start saying that they'll crush those who go against them, and they start laughing menacingly... Much like Dog Man, these books teach kids about empathy and kindness and love and other positive personal values in a way that doesn't feel preachy or didactic!

The teased sequel to Chubbs McSpiderbutt is called "Chubbs McSpiderbutt 2: The Birth of Big Bubba Babyhead", a reference to Ambassador Babyhead, an action figure George and Harold played with in the first intro of Dog Man: Fetch-22. In Li'l Petey and Molly's comic, Squid Kid is peculiar from the others and layed him off, while on the distant side, Katydid has a different thought than the others, which lets her cry. Together, these misfits met each other and their lives changed over their friendship.The shenanigans are nonstop and the baby frogs' minicomics are funny and full of heart.
