Imogen Clark is an author who has been on my radar for ages and I jumped at the chance to be part of the readalong plans for An Unwanted Inheritance.

This book will make you consider which of the characters you would be and ponder on whether an unwanted windfall would be more trouble than it’s worth. The author introduces us to the central characters with just enough background to know what is important to them, what drives them…and then she introduces the delicious dilemma which centres around the money.I love her books - they somehow manage to be at once gentle, poignant and emotionally powerful stories and this one was no exception. Gambling addict Nathan definitely could, and even affluent Ellie and James could put it to good use but there’s probably something dodgy about it, right? It was quite a short read and I think would’ve been a good Christmas read as it was to do with families, coming together in tough times… but they also had a very tough decision to make. After what seemed a noticeably short period of sleep, Louise woke me gently stroking the side of my face.

The way the money was found could be compared with looking under a stone, revealing character traits and personality differences never seen before. Perhaps an event with the strain showing between Frosts and Fishers and Valerie as a viewpoint character acknowledging some of the strains in the resolution. Be sure before you leave at the end of your shift on Monday to look in on Tanya Wolfgang, the young German lady who we operated on just now.
