Holmberg…has a deft hand portraying internal emotional responses…Keeper of Enchanted Rooms combines lighthearted entertainment and nail-biting excitement. Even though I occasionally thought it moved a little slowly, I truly liked this book and would recommend it. Amanda Leigh Cobb brings in Hulda, an employee from the Boston Institute of Keepers of Enchanted Rooms, who seems to be a stern young woman, at first. I wholeheartedly suggest this book, especially to everyone who enjoyed or is currently desiring the blend of historical fiction and fantasy in magical language! I don’t like books placed in America, and I don’t like eras after Regency, and I still loved this book. I enjoyed discovering how everything functioned and observing how the magic impacted every other aspect of the narrative.

Luckily, before the end of the book I realized there must be a part 2 in the works so I checked and I was able to download the digital ARC of part 2 from NetGalley. Honestly, I can't even tell you what really happened in this book and I probably should have put it down without it being finished. This is a time for Hulda Larkin from the Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms to come to help and take care of the new resident or perhaps Whimbrel House itself! The prologue set in 1818, London is chilling, and took me in a very different direction to what ultimately occurs.My only complaint about book 1 is the romance of will they or won't they was drawn out and at times rather annoying. After an entire book of those feelings growing, and after Merritt laid his heart out so beautifully for her, I closed the last page extremely unsatisfied.

The main plot arc takes some meandering twists and turns, slowly revealing the horror of the identity of the villain and his nefarious ambitions, but ultimately comes to an exciting climax and conclusion.An author who is currently working on his second book, he is thrilled to realize that this might solve his current housing predicament. This property has been vacant for more than a century, but Merritt, who doesn’t really have an alternative, is happy to move in.
