In terms of audio, the AVC-X3700H retains the 11 channels of processing that were upped from seven on the last iteration of this model. There are nine power amplifier channels built-in, each feeding a claimed 180W of power per channel. That means you can set the AVC-X3700H up in a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos configuration, or add an extra two-channel amp to make full use of the processing power with a 7.2.4 set-up. If you find you want a bit more headroom in the future, bi-amping is always an option - especially with a 5.1 system (with 9 channels you can bi-amp and still even add front heights!). Our fixed speaker setup in the test room is a Procella THX system in 7.1 configuration, with a pair of ceiling-mounted Martin Logan SLM for Atmos content. A 7.1.2 setup is the starting point for the test, and I have not tested with e.g. 5.1.4 where the extra rear channels are replaced with a couple of extra ceiling channels instead. New DSP for more processing power: With 11.2ch max audio processing, connect an external power amplifier to the AVC-X3700H to power two extra channels to enjoy a 11.2ch home theatre setup.

If you do not need all the 11.2 receiver channels and also the 13.2 processor channels of the more than twice as expensive AVC-X6700H, then this seems like the most sensible choice. In between there is the X4700H receiver, but there you pay extra for Auro 3D support, a strange surround format that few will need, plus only marginally more power (20 watts more per channel).
