Description

Rose hips contain plenty of vitamin C, and before imported fruit and veggies were available, rose hip syrup was used to treat coughs and colds. I am partial to a cup of rose flavoured tea, add rose water in some of my cooking and I particularly like my Sirop de roses (Rose syrup, mine is made in Lebanon) which I sometimes use to give a pink tinge and rose flavour to some of my desserts: home made ice creams, panna cotta, stewed fruit compotes (especially rhubarb or figs, or pears) or fresh fruit salads.

This delicious, syrupy rosehip liqueur will continue to mature although it tastes fantastic from the start. It makes a lovely homemade gift, but I bet after you try it you won’t give a drop away! Made from a delicate mixture of Tequila Rose, white chocolate liqueur and cake vodka – this shot can look particularly attractive when served in a glass with a birthday cake icing rim and rainbow sprinkles. Because of its sweet and distinctive flavor, Tequila Rose is exceptionally good in shots and can even be enjoyed as a palette cleanser. Rosehip berries are the beautiful red fruit of the rose (Rosa) bush. All roses and their fruit are edible, although flavour varies depending on the variety. We are fortunate in that we have lots of wild dog rose bushes growing in the hedgerows around our house and they have an excellent flavour.Note: I like to use Brandy to make this liqueur, but you can make Rosehip Gin and Rosehip Vodka in exactly the same way.
