Her two older daughters resent her relentless and fruitless search for their sister, and her husband, Peter, pleads with her to come to terms with Emma's absence before her obsession causes the destruction of the rest of their family.

Steena encourages other people that are thinking about writing to believe in their story and in themselves. She says that will definitely show when it comes to the actual story and your online presence. She thinks that when an author believes in their writing, their true heart ‘will shine’ through and the readers will notice! They want desperately to reunite with Emma, and it seems like a miracle when they finally discover her. All this time, Emma’s been living with an older couple not too far from where they live. Finn Mathew is a man who has been broken in his young life, for heartbreak leaves its brand of scars. He isn’t looking for anything, he isn’t looking for love but most of all, he isn’t looking for Emma. Yet he finds her, and the good guy that he is, treasures her. There are parts of this book that dragged on and had no real impact on the story other than to give that character some history, like Ag for example. She was a great mediator character but learning her past or her history didn't do much to help the story along.

The Word Game was included in the Top 20 Novels to be Written by Women in 2015 by Good Housekeeping. The Word Game also won the 2015 USA Books Award for Best Fiction and her novel, The Memory Child was a finalist in the same category. The whole idea of a revenge list intrigued me. I knew to be on the lookout for a twisted ending, after all, that's what the Queen of endings does - she twists them and they're always a surprise to me. In Deadly Seduction (only mentioning this movie bc it's very similar), the protag didn't actually believe someone close to her was capable of the crimes happening. This is in spite of the character humiliating her in her personal life. Very different from Alyssa, who by the end of this really doesn't deserve those people remaining in her life. I really didn't care for how both of them allowed her to get away with accusing them of crimes because of reasons she made up in her head...and ironically, it was a pretty clear example of what Emma's dad was saying. Grace nor Grant need a friend like Alyssa. I beg to report the death of Ella Lafford, an Indian Girl, at St. Joseph's Hospital here,” reads a letter from an Indian agent to the secretary at the Department of Indian Affairs in Ottawa. “The girl has been a pupil at St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Fort William and has been confined at the Hospital for some time. Anya Taylor-Joy is not only a good, distinctively featured young actress but she also *looks* as young as Jane Austen's heroine is intended to be, about age 20. She has the (often baseless) self-confidence arising from a privileged, untroubled upbringing, but a journey of self-discovery awaits her, and that's what makes the story.
