Description

Distilled in 2003, the whisky was matured in a sherry butt, then another sherry butt, imparting delicious fruit and spice to the coastal peat smoke and powerful malt at its core. Married from a selection of the distillery's finest bourbon cask matured whisky, it was bottled up at 15 years old, with a release of 3,000 bottles. Just 194 bottles were released, after maturing for 25 years between June 1996 and March 2022, in a single refill hogshead.

Over the years this has become one of the rarest and most sought-after single malt whiskies ever created. Founded in 1779, Bowmore is thought to be one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, and is owned by Japanese drinks company Suntory, which also owns Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch. Paired with the fresh, Hebridian sea air and cold, coastal stone walls which protect Bowmore whiskies during a meticulous maturing process, Bowmore whiskies are as full and as bold as the waters that surround their birthplace. Brilliant, single cask Bowmore joining the Symington's Choice Cask Strength Collection from independent bottlers, Signatory Vintage.Initially matured in American oak hogsheads, the whisky them moved to white Port casks to finish its maturation. The heart of the Bowmore range, the 12 year old exhibits some beautiful coastal notes with a gentle peat, it is the balance that the floral element presents that makes this a great entry bottling for Bowmore.

Bowmore is Islay’s very first licensed distillery, a location which also happens to be home to the world’s oldest Scotch whisky maturation space. This Islay single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in 1997 and matured for 25 years in an oloroso sherry butt.Extra old and particularly good single malt from Bowmore, independently bottled by Douglas Laing for its Xtra Old Particular series.

Just 284 bottles were filled in 2023, without colouring or chill filtration, at 46% ABV by Douglas Laing for its Provenance range. Following purchase in 1837, by William and James Mutter, the distillery was resold in 1892 to the Bowmore Distillery Company Ltd.The third in a series from two huge names, Edition 3 of the Bowmore 22 Year Old Aston Martin Masters' Selection was matured in European oak oloroso sherry casks and American oak hogsheads before it was bottled up at 51% ABV. Matured in bourbon casks, this one was originally a travel retail exclusive and celebrates the iconic Aston Martin Atom on the packaging. It was matured for two decades in a sherry-tastic mix of oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks before being bottled at a cask strength 50. Bowmore has had a long affiliation with Japanese pioneers Suntory, who acquired a stake in the company during the late 1980s. Showing off the excellent whiskies of Islay is what this series is all about, and that's exactly what's happening here.
