Nyktos also has such depth and darkness, more so than Casteel in my opinion, that even though the characters and plot mirror each other in many ways, I still found myself captivated by this story.

Sera was an awesome heroine, strong, fierce, powerful, determined, a warrior, with amazing abilities and courage. Soon she realizes that she loves Nyktos, even though he is unable to love, but she will also be protective of him. Nyktos was also great, as we couldn’t help fall in love with him; especially how he protects Sera, as well of all in his realm. They were so great together, both succumbing to their true feelings. Another thing we find out right before shit hits the fan is that Sera intended to k*ll herself when she took a lot of the sleep aid before she meets Ash in book 1. She never intended to wake up and that reveal spoke volumes to why she was always never in fear of death and the fact Nektas is the only one to know of that confession makes it even more special. I wonder what Ash would have thought or done knowing this information, it would confirm what he has felt and known for so long: She didn't value her life. Listening to the audiobook instead of reading the book made Sera’s inner monologues feel even longer and more repetitive. I will leave my 4-star rating because it’s the rating I gave the physical copy of the book, but I would give 3 or 3.5 stars to the audiobook because it felt SO. LONG. 😖 Reminder: this review reflects my own reading experience and remember that readers will always have different experiences when it comes to reading a book. Quotes used in this review are out of context. This book begins right where the last one left off, with world-shifting reveals changing everything sor Sera and Nyktos. Sera is adjusting to her truths about herself, the life that she will be living in the Shadowlands, and the part that she has to play in an ancient prophecy. She is also coming to realise that she may have the opportunity to live a life that she never thought she would. She is feeling free for the very first time, and she absolutely blossoms.
