OK, there’s no quartz control connected to the direct drive motor here, so you can’t expect nailed on speed control but it ain’t too bad once you get to grips with the pitch adjustment. Favoured by DJs, the L-3808 has direct drive for fast start-up at cue, vari-speed controls for beat-matching, and the ability to scratch by hand without causing damage.Boasting a direct drive mechanism and built-in pre-amplifier, this turntable produces high-quality sound with low vibration.

The base is quite interesting as it appears that it must be a generic one used on other OEM decks - there are 5 holes marked for speed adjustment but none is available on the L-3808. I used the Pro-Ject lead, while I sorted out something new, and fortunately it stayed properly connected for the week or two until my other stuff arrived. Arriving with a dust cover (do yourself a favour and play records with the lid off to lower noise pollution), the Lenco arrives with a small and anaemic looking S-shaped arm, complete with an arm lift and holding a removable headshell.With a built-in phono pre-amplifier, you can connect the Lenco L-3808 directly to your mixer or stereo.

The now discontinued Audio-Technica AT95E has a sound which is perceived by many to be one of the best at the low end of the market.
