In addition, the exterior casing features a high-performance MDF wood with vinyl walnut woodgrain wrap to add a decorative touch. This makes the speakers ideal for any studio or home application.It is worth mentioning that the vinyl wrap is vulnerable to wearing away. So, it may start to peel sooner or later, especially if your working station is humid. However, this is purely speculation based on past interactions with vinyl coatings. Edifier R1850DB The R1850DB justifies the higher price tag with strategic upgrades such as the optical/coaxial inputs, subwoofer outputs, a better remote, and subtle design changes such as the glossy piano finish which gives a more premium look. My first impression was that I really liked the design, they fit in almost any environment, except perhaps really old school cottages. A strange comparison, but I have reviewed a pair of Edifiers in an old cottage before over at Fullsync. Similar to the R1700BT, the frequency response range is 60Hz – 20kHz. It has sufficient depth in both high and low ends to deliver an accurate response. Also, the speakers are loud at 85dBA, which is ideal for a small to the medium-sized studio.

Active bookshelf speakers are much maligned in the audiophile world but anyone doing so doesn’t quite get the point. For a lot of people the world of pairing, matching, and even setting up speakers with amplifiers is a pain in the rear end. Believe it or not people like just being able to plug something into the wall and start listening. I’m not going to sit here and argue about active vs passive speakers. I’m going to review this set of R1850DB for what they are, active powered speakers with an in-built amp. PRICEY !! considering there are many speakers who can give 85% if not 90% of value what these can deliver. Remote control just works. I am not going to complain about it being light or cheap or whatever. It just does what its meant to do which is volume control, AUX/PC/Bluetooth/Optical mode switch and song play, pause and next, turn off, and mute.

When you look at the price, it really isn’t that much more expensive and I’ve seen it on sale multiple times. The bass response is spot on, even with the trims set to neutral, and there is a good balance of high and mid-range.

The front face is angled to direct the sound, so you won’t need to use monitor stands. Also, you can remove the cloth panel to expose the drivers. However, keep in mind that the panels help to protect the drivers and diffuse the sound. Edifier 1850DB Another impressive choice in the Edifier lineup is the R1700BT. It is similar in design but comes in at a lower price point. A budget option that gets a lot right.

Do you recommend these or Presonus Eris 3.5 for the same price (around 100 EUR)? Of course, Eris is more professional, but R1850DB also has a pretty smooth AFR curve, and also it has more features, and, it seems, it has biamp (separate amp channels for tweeters / bass) while Eris 3.5 does not (Eris 5 does). If a sub out option is not a big concern the R1280DB could be a good choice for you. It retains many of the features of the R1850DB but at an even cheaper price point.

A wise tuning choice because at only 4 inches there is only so much air this woofer can move so why make it unusable when played over 75% volume? Instead, 85% - 95% is where this becomes loose and deformed which I think is really good because it gets loud enough to easily fill medium-sized rooms.
