Her examination of journalistic records and diaries is thorough, and her explanations about how journalists covered Congress are fascinating enough for a book in its own right. Freeman explains how the most widely circulated press record, the Congressional Globe, frequently omitted or bowdlerised accounts of Congressional violence, as did Washington papers in general, partly because DC papers relied on federal printing contracts (186-87). The development of a national press and the telegraph produced a more open reporting, and tended to heighten the cycle of violence. I understand that she is a journalist and she is supposed to form an opinion. However, making her opinion sounding like scientific truth is bad journalism (of course, this is my opinion :))

A film adaptation was released in 1990, directed by Jim Sheridan with Richard Harris in the lead role. It’s been nearly a year since my beloved uncle passed away. He had lived a long life, but left us rather abruptly just the same. He lived the life he wanted to, even though others in the family sometimes frowned, passing judgments as family is wont to do. But he was a happy man, and I believe he left with few regrets. I’m going to go visit him this week in the field where he was laid to rest and say, “Thank you, Uncle Carl... for everything.”

Note: This is a review of the audiobook narrated by the author. I do not know if the audiobook is exactly the same as the book. The Bird" O'Donnell - A mischievous calf buyer and a regular at Flanagan's pub, Bird is an acquaintance of The McCabes.' Con Man. A small plot of barren land is donated to the town and becomes the final resting place of its inhabitants. Their are the voices we hear/read in this unusual novel. The dead tell us their stories while lying underground, often close to their relatives, and paint the portrayal of the town where they loved, hated, suffered and died. This is one of those books that will make you shake your head as you think about the power of prayer. An amazing account of scientifically proven experiences, that are further reinforced by events more recent.
