A 3 litre outer 'moat' features six watering spikes, delivering water direct to the plant's roots. This ensures that water and liquid feed are delivered at a slower rate that the plant is better able to absorb.

The central planting area is particularly useful when used with grow bags as it allows a deeper planting zone to develop healthier plants. I use the Levington extra deep-fill tomato planters, they are the Tomorite ones and they go really well on the concrete flooring of the greenhouse. Puncture the bottom of the growbag then place into a long tray. It typically takes between 3 and 6 hours for the water reservoir to drain fully, depending on the weather and soil conditions. Plant Halos also feature a unique cane support system. 3 anchor slots surround the inner pot and provide the means for a rigid, wind resistant structure using bamboo cane (not included). A cane grip cap (see photo below) is also included and allows for up to 4 canes to be joined at the peak of the resulting structure. So I’m planting these out in halos today (21st April) which extend the growing and enable easy watering, so if you go away for the weekend you can fill these up with water and not worry about your tomatoes drying out. The Benefits Of Tomato Craters You install your Plant Halos into your growbag (or onto soil, they are perfect for three per growbag. You then top up the central feeding chamber with compost. This is the area where the tomato plant has its short, knobbly roots which take in the feed and nutrients. You then leave the outer chamber empty and use this for day to day watering. This has a a 3 litre capacity and you can fill with water when watering and it will slowly dissipate into the growbag through the unique watering spikes - ensuring that all the water is taken up by the grow bag. If using a Tomato Ladder, insert its legs through the three support channels and push it down until the bottom rung is resting on the halo. If using a Tomato Cage, place it around the halo and push the legs into the soil until the bottom rung rests on the ground. Step 6.

So, what I do with these halos is that I water the plants directly into the middle of the halos for about 2 or 3 weeks and once they’re established and start to grow away I can then actually water into the outer ring where the holes are, where the water will seep through gradually. Once the first flowers are set, I use a seaweed liquid feed every Sunday and then usually only have to water midweek. So twice a week watering of which one of those is a feed. This clever designwill allow you to get more professional results from your greenhouse crops such as (but not only) tomatoes. The science behind the design is that you get exactly the right amount of water and feed to the correct parts of the root structure. They work superbly well in growbags. Anway, I digress! OK, once the tomato is all planted in, put a drop of water straight into the area that you have just sown to just settle them in and do water them again the next day too. Like I said earlier, if you are going away for a couple of days, you can fill these right to the top and they will take a couple of days for the water to seep into the growbag behind.

Sink a Plant Halo into a grow bag or into the ground if you have a traditional vegetable plot. They can also be used in pots with a diameter of 26cm or above or on raised beds. How does it work? This idea is simple yet ingenious. Pop your ball of twine into a pot then feed the end through one of the drainage holes. Stretch duct tape over the top of the pot to stop the spool falling out. You now have a ready-to-use twine dispenser. Just pull from the bottom and cut off what you need. 5. Get Crafty There is a deep inner pot which will helps the plant to grow a strong root system.. The plant is put in the inner pot and then you fill it with soil/compost.To water/feed you just fill the reservoir/moat and the water/feed will drip direct into the soil from the holes in the spikes. It will slowly water/feed your plant direct at the roots. A garland tomato halo is a small, circular tomato that is grown in a greenhouse.
