When the friendship became, so much work/drama/chaos and zero fun or actual friendship, I just would have moved on and …then you wouldn’t have had a story.

When I first started to read this book it reminded me of the ordinary things that happen in everyday life. Four best friends who met at university and end up married, having babies and living just streets away from each other. This was followed by a number of awarded series, such as This Life, 20 Things to Do Before You're 30, and Teachers. I think the quality of writing is the best thing about this book, the author has talent and I would check out some of her other books. Fallon uses the storytelling skills she learned as a TV drama producer to get readers rooting for the main character, Helen, early on.

I have only ever listened to one other audiobook more than once, and I’ve listened to a large amount of audiobooks in my time, so that should tell you just how well written this book is. Her voice is very nice to listen to, and she effectively uses a different timbre and accent for every character, making them easily distinguishable. With a witty, intelligent storyline and realistic, lovable characters, Foursome is definitely a book I'd recommend to others.

There was something coupley about it, something more real than the frantic nature of the early days. She had grown up watching her parents’ dogged devotion to one another, their ‘us against the world’ united front which often excluded even her, their only child, and she’d been trying to locate that perfect partner for herself ever since, to find her own gang of two.

Getting Rid of Matthew by Jane Fallon is a joyously uncommon book that’s humor can be appreciated by a mass audience at the same time as it maintains the elusive ideal quality of any book that involves romance: unpredictability. They’ve known their best friends Alex and Isabel since they were at University and they’ve always done everything as a Foursome, from getting married to babies and even group holidays.

Fallon gets her characters into situations that seem impossible to get out of, stretching the limits of the reader’s expectations constantly.

He makes no secret about the fact that he's married, and you could say that the women who take him up on it are in some way weak, insecure, flattered (Helen learns that she wasn't the first woman he approached at the company, but she was the only one who let herself be seduced by him). The company currently has two films in production: the Adam Sandler-starrer You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah! If you’d have asked her at the time what she thought about women who had affairs with married men, she would have said they were sad, desperate, unfeeling betrayers of other women. I can't understand how 11 years old or near this age girl will swear like a grown-up and the grown-ups have been using fuck,shit and fuck and shit every second sentence. Funny thing, my dirty mind tricked me with the title and thought the story might have something to do with an actual foursome or a partner-swapping.Add all those little things like snoring and colouring hair, patronising too much, and Matthew seems to be turning back from Prince to frog. And, of course, that had been four years ago and he’d never left her for even a weekend, as far as Helen could remember.
