If watchmakers have trusted Bergeon for over 2 centuries, I was confident that their spring bar tool would be a perfect addition to my small collection of basic watch tools. Versions of the 6767 Spring Bar Tool Bergeon has been manufacturing tools, equipment, and furniture for watchmakers and enthusiasts in Switzerland since 1791. Located in La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland, Bergeon employs over 60 people to research, design, and manufacture tools that watchmakers around the world depend on to provide consistent results for their customers. I agree with the review, but watch out for breaking the pointed tip. I have broken two of them (thanks for the link so I can now buy one :), so I think I need to be very gentle and careful with those. I think thi tool is overpriced. I own it (the fine version) and the screws loosen all the time. And as a reader said the tip breaks very easily, not good for adjusting bracelet. My previous chinese noname tool was more robust. This fine quality steel spring bar tool is designed to last a lifetime. It is the perfect tool for removing spring bars from metal and leather watch bands. The forked end works great for opening spring bars, and the pointed end is just right for compressing shouldered spring bars from the lug holes. The weight, handle knurls, and size make this watch tool ideal for the delicate job of adjusting the size of watch bands or repairing a watch clasp. Each tip is removable and has identical threading making it easy and convenient to change or replace the tips as necessary for repair work.

A watch’s strap or bracelet is almost always held in place by two small steel spring-loaded bars that fit between the lugs, and while removing them doesn’t necessarily require a dedicated tool, using one certainly makes the operation easier. Many of these tools also come with a micro-flathead screwdriver for use in removing links from bracelets, making them even more useful.

Spring bars are spring-loaded metal tubes that hold the strap in place between a watch's lugs. They fit into tiny holes on the inside of a watch's lugs. If you will be removing heavy leather or rubber straps, the wider forked tip on the 6767-S will allow you to push the strap away from the lugs to give you access to the spring bar. The wider fork will also help prevent damaging leather or rubber by not digging into the material as much as a finer fork would.
