This re-release version of the Monster Beetle assembly kit features a number of updates while keeping the basic layout of the original off-road car released in 1986. The next task was to squeeze all of the wires into the chassis and make it look neat. I took my time here as I am a little OCD about wiring. There is quite a lot of space, but it was a little tight around the speed controller. It is worth doing this though as it will be a pain later on in the build process. Length: 410mm ●Width: 285mm ●Height: 240mm ●Wheelbase: 247mm ●Tread: 220mm (Front); 225mm (Rear) ●Tire Width/Diameter: 58mm/130mm The injection-moulded plastic body accurately captures the classic Tamiya Monster Beetle shape and style. The classic Tamiya Monster Beetle is an iconic R/C kit. This version takes the classic body, shrinks it to a smaller scale, and mounts it on a variant GF-01 chassis called the GF-01TR!

The Monster Beetle is of course another 1/10 scale, kit-based, hobby-grade R/C legend from the golden era of Tamiya R/C models in the mid 1980s. Front double wishbone and rear trailing arm setups are cushioned by high-performance CVA oil dampers.The rugged ABS space-frame chassis fromthe original model (58060) has remained. The chassis uses a double-wishbone front with trailing arm rear suspension setups that work in tandum with the CVA oil dampers. I rescued the poor thing from the bushes and straight away noticed the problem. On the right side of the gearbox, the round end of the swing shaft had popped right out of its place in the (short) gearbox joint. Its almost as if the right hand side Swing shaft is too short?? Body is molded in red ABS Plastic. It depicts a customized Beetle with gaping fenders, triple auxiliary lights and a shortened rear end. Includes Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC (electronic speed control) Capable of running sensor brushless motors and brushed motors alike. (21.5 Turn BL motor limit) (23 Turn brushed motor limit). Be careful about tightening things too much in the rear suspension trailing arm...they have a tendency to create other issues.

The body also features a sporty roll bar. Following this we attach the steering arms to the servo saver. It is basic and chunky and should be fine to get started with. Elsewhere, the legendary Tamiya catalogues – for me, their best marketing – featured the Monster Beetle in the 1987 annual issue…

Body depicts a customized Beetle with gaping fenders, triple auxiliary lights and a shortened rear end. A 3-gear differential is housed between a pair of aluminum plates that make up the transmission case. The original Monster Beetle used hex shaped dogebones for driveshafts and they were prone to rounding out. This time around Tamiya has included a more traditional dogbone with a CV joint on the axles. I started off by fitting the chassis spacers. There are a collection of steel bars and plastic spacers to ensure that once the other part is attached it all stays together well.

And combining their high-rise, go anywhere looks with the evergreen shape of a VW Beetle resulted in yet another hit for the Japanese model company Tamiya. Left: The chassis has higher ground clearance that further boosts its capabilities on tough terrain. The steering arms are connected to the front axles. These are chunky affairs with two large plastic parts bolted together with 4 large screws to provide a rugged C-Hub (Unlike the TRF419 ones). Thank you very much, actually, I recently came over a set of those, and plan to use it on my Super Monster Beetle, too. Yes, it´s a bit overkill. But you can never have good enogh dampers!These old videos often used to appear on TV sets in Hobby Shops, as in-store promotion to help tempt customers. Next up it's time to fit the steering servo and esc. The kit included esc is the excellent TBLE-02s. It is able to run the included brushed motor, and importantly it can also run a sensored brushless motor if you want to add more speed. The large front bumper is next. This is attached with 3 screws on the front of the chassis and will hopefully help protect you from the occasional mishap!
