Description

A burglar comes across a gang of drugs and arms smugglers during a break-in. Not even the police can protect him, and it's up to CI5 to uncover and stop the gang. Susan: "Now I remember where I've seen the good-looking one before... Mr Doyle. He was in the car with you that day!"

This was the final episode to be filmed. Apparently the boat scenes nearly ended in Lewis being drowned. There is a short scene of him hanging precariously out of the boat - in the first take he did fall out and was dragged underneath the water with his leg trapped in the boat for several seconds before Martin noticed! (Thanks to Louise Tilley for info!) Initially, Anthony Andrews was contracted to play Bodie, but he and Shaw did not have the chemistry that Clemens was looking for. As Shaw was deemed to have more 'screen presence', Andrews was dropped, Clemens hiring Collins in his place. Shaw and Collins had played villains in a 1977 episode of The New Avengers ("Obsession") together, and reportedly had not got on with each other. Ironically, since this was the reason Collins was brought into the production, [1] he and Shaw became friends off-screen, although they managed to keep up the on-screen chemistry and abrasiveness of Bodie and Doyle's relationship. The Collins character in "Obsession" signed off by saying "Maybe we should work together again. We're a good team." The first Professionals episode was produced later the same year. An American delegate is saved by Cowley when shots are seemingly fired at him, but no further attempt is made to kill him before he departs the country. CI5 is aware of the presence of a hitman called Ramos, and predicts a second assassination attempt. Sheila Ruskin (whom we last saw in Season 1's controversial episode 'Klansmen') is wonderful as level-headed victim Susan, and it's fun seeing how Bodie literally 'crashes' his way into her life and affections. A man whose daughter is severely brain-damaged after a complicated birth then loses his wife to an overdose. He blames the incompetence of the doctors, and seeks revenge. With the blessing of an unsuspecting priest he systematically starts to wipe out doctors, one by one. Overlooking that point, the tension of the situation is effectively maintained all the way through. Rona Anderson does a splendid job as Susan's mother and has a nice sense of comedy...Bodie and Doyle are assigned to protect a foreign official en route to several meetings. But why are the diplomat's moves known by a team of assassins?

A foreign official is visiting, so Bodie and Doyle receive special training to protect him. Meanwhile, two hit-men are being trained to murder him..... In late 2005, Contender replaced the original DVD releases with a new set which saw some minor improvements in the picture quality.
