The Simplex+ is a single frequency VLF metal detector operating at 12 kHz. This model has frequency shift which allows it to compensate for electromagnetic interference. This does not mean the model has multiple frequencies, but rather than it can slightly shift frequencies to compensate for interference. The 340 is the lowest model with the fewest features, while the 540 is the highest model with most features. All the Vanquish metal detectors were made for entry level to intermediate metal detectorists, so they are user friendly and simple to master. This is an all-purpose machine with great features, a compact design, and simple functionality at a fantastic price. While designed with beginner metal detectorists in mind, the Vanquish 440 has enough features to make even an intermediate detectorist happy. I see that Minelab and … Nokta got the idea. Right, this is Nokta Simplex that I consider as a main rival to these devices. Especially, for beach hunting fans. That’s why you shouldn’t combine batteries of different types in one metal detector. Also, it’s not worth using old batteries and new ones together. The process of the battery charging and discharging should be done at least 5-10 times. In general, it is good for NiMh batteries when they get charged and discharge completely. When you open a box with Minelab Vanquish 540 metal detector, among others, you will see 4 NiMh batteries with a charging device for them. Since this is a metal detector of the beginner level, cheaper batteries are used. Other Minelab metal detectors – Equinox, CTX use Li-ion batteries. Three tones are factory set at Low, Medium and High all of which are clear and very distinguishable. Not surprisingly, I like this set up since I programmed my Equinox 800 and my CTX 3030 years ago to report 3 tones. Personally, I don’t need any more than 3 since ALL targets encountered are either low, medium or high conductors so why not align the tones accordingly? A simplified plus in my book. The design of the Vanquish series is rather curious, and while it really reminds a device from some kind of videogame of the 80s, at least it does not fall apart when handled (like Go-Find does). Vanquish looks pretty solid.
