There was quite a lot of history in the book because she travelled back in time and every time she pressed GO it took her to a new place that her dad had typed in to the computer. If it is travelling through time fifty times or a hundred times faster than we are, if it gets through a minute while we get through a second, the impression it creates will of course be only one-fiftieth or one-hundredth of what it would make if it were not travelling in time. I also liked the part where Tilly's friend Jack dressed up as her friend Jack from the past (the chimney sweep).On top of that there's still whimsy and fun, it's not dark like it could be, and it's a good model of a healthy father-daughter relationship. There were also perhaps a dozen candles about, two in brass candlesticks upon the mantel and several in sconces, so that the room was brilliantly illuminated.

The rip-roaring adventurousness of it all is anchored by an amusingly deadpan opening section in which Tilly finds herself home alone, negotiating the everyday demands of a primary school pupil’s routine. Namely the loss of Tilly's mom (and how to deal with that) is also a very big focal point in the book. I thought that the book was really good because it made me believe I was actually time travelling back in time: to Queen Victoria's time, the football match against West Germany, the battle against the French and Tilly's 6th birthday to see her mummy. The language used by the author was funny, especially the song “shake your bum around” and the language was descriptive and realistic when describing the olden days. She then discovers he has successfully invented (and tested) a time machine, but is stuck in the past and needs Tilly's help to get back.It did make me want to read more about Victoria Times and the story and I thought the story was very imaginative and funny. When Tilly enters the time machine, she meets lots of historical characters such as, Admiral Nelson, Hans (the famous football payer) in 1966 and Queen Victoria. Tilly misses her mom and would love to have more pictures around, while her dad seemingly tries to forget his wife/her mother. I thought the activities at the end of the novel were a great addition for teachers and parents looking to extend the novel.

It's clear the young reader is supposed to live without answers to her questions, proof this book seriously underserves the target audience. The characters that were in the book were described very well especially Tilly's mum and Tilly herself. With my teacher’s hat on, I think it could help inspire children to think about their favourite historical characters, who they’d like to meet or what funny fact they’d like to discover about them and be a great stimulus for independent writing.This book is realistic and tells you a lot of interesting facts about the Victorian times and how they ate. Next, Tilly wanted to try out the time machine but for some reason it just took her too many places that apparently her dad had visited like the world cup when England won, Buckingham palace. You will find many creative activities based on each book to make reading even more enjoyable and interactive. Because I presume that it has not moved in space, and if it travelled into the future it would still be here all this time, since it must have travelled through this time. She's woken in the middle of the night by loud bangs and showers of sparks, and leaps out of her bedroom window into her Dad’s arms to discover he's finally got his time machine working.
