I am definitely torn between the AYA NEO 2021 Pro and ONEXPLAYER 1S as to which I would use every day. The Neo Pro’s size is just right in my opinion, it handles games well and feels great in your hands. Whereas the 1S screen is larger and more immersive, but it’s also physically larger and not as comfortable to hold or as portable in comparison. Aya re expanding their range of gaming handhelds with a new model which features a faster processor as well as a new retro themed model and accessories. At the end of the first match there is an average frames per second of 26. Will it be higher or lower than the Intel model handhelds? AYA NEO Benchmark Results The Pro scores 1,404. It’s not the highest scores we have seen, but well above the average. Gaming Benchmarks Forza Horizon 4The AYA NEO NEXT PRO takes the lead on the system benchmarks with the highest on PCMark and 3DMark. AMD processors are generally better than Intel when pushed to their peak performance in tests like these. Beyond that, the AYA NEO is relatively plain in design. The shell has small bumps beneath the triggers to aid ergonomics, but there are no real stand-out features beyond that. Is there an AYA NEO Hardware Revision (AYA NEO 2021)? Naturally the AYA NEO Pro beats the AYA NEO by a fair margin, with 12.6% difference in performance on PassMark and 32% difference on Forza Horizon 4 for example.

The NVMe SSD – while nothing new to the world of windows gaming handhelds– is still a welcome addition as well, as this boosts the load times across the device in general. AYA NEO Peformance Underneath the protective foam is a USB charge cable and two USB Type-C to Type-A adapters. There is also a stand for the name plate. Power supply and worldwide plug adaptersThere are also rumours that there is a Ryzen 7 4800U version in the works, but this is currently unconfirmed. RAM & Storage The cooling system has been improved with a new heat dissipating dual copper tube. This will provide faster and more stable heat removal. AYA NEO System Benchmarks Following on from the original Aya Neo, it will feature at 47Wh large battery for long battery life. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 are also present for fast data transfer. Aya Neo Improvements Lets first have a reminder of the benchmark results. The scores for the default 15W TDP are shown, as well as the tests for 20W to keep more in line with the GPD and ONEXPLAYER devices.

The AYA NEO pro scores 3,372 with a slightly low rating. Reducing a few graphics settings should get the game up to speed just fine. Shadow of the Tomb Raider That latter point is crucial in managing battery life. Out of the box, three power levels are supported: 5W for battery conservation, an 8W 'balanced' mode and a 12W gaming mode, meant for modern titles. There's also a user-configurable Pro mode, where you choose the power limit up to 15W on the standard Air and 18W on the Air Pro. The higher the power limit, the less battery life you'll have, but also the harder the cooling assembly needs to work. And the machine can get rather warm, if not hot to the touch at higher wattages. In my tests, 5W is a write-off for gaming, 8W is fine for very low-end titles or 2D games (Cuphead works beautifully, as an example) while 12W is the place to be for the best ratio between power and performance. That said, 15W often provides the extra juice required to turn sub-30fps gameplay into a more palatable experience. This, again, points out the utility of the Pro model with the larger battery, even if you opt for one without the enhanced Ryzen 7 processor - the fact is that the bigger battery makes accessing those higher power limits more comfortable in terms of battery life.

I like the AYA NEO a lot, it feels very comfortable to handle and play games on, And it is not too heavy when holding it unaided, for example resting on your lap or table. The screen size is also just right, large enough to be able to see smaller text. Aya have done a great job with the Neo and we can’t wait to see how the AYA NEO Pro model with faster processor performs.
