In general, this is a decent protein bar. Barebells delivers with the macros on all their bars, and the texture is good. Flavour-wise it’s also pleasant, but there’s nothing overall amazing about this bar, not a lot to rant about. Certainly not disappointing, but certainly not astounding either. Coconut-Choco (4/10) And then there’s the issue that if you promise dark chocolate, you should really deliver dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate – it’s rich is wonderful, and I don’t even mind the hint of bitterness. But this isn’t it. It’s too sweet and too faint a flavour. Plus, the chocolate coating is too thin for it to hold it’s own against the mint. It’s quite simple in its execution, but this bar nevertheless has an essence of luxe. Definitely not as good as the Salty Peanut, but it’s up there with Barebells’ bests. Mint Dark Chocolate (6/10) Milk protein, collagen peptides, humectant (glycerol), sweetener (sucralose, maltitol), polydextrose, cocoa, water, milk powder, sunflower oil, almonds, salt, soy lecithin.

The white chocolate coating is lovely, but it’s still so thin that the almond pieces are still essentially naked, but the almond pieces themselves are a better choice than the go-to crispies of other brands. The core is soft with a slight chew and, although I’ve literally just shaded them, I do like the crispies in there for the subtle crunch. Short answer: No. But honestly, what did you expect? The chocolate coating is creamy, the centre is soft (definitely reminiscent of nougat), the caramel layer is nice and moist, and the hazelnut pieces certainly add a slight crunch; but this is definitely not Rocher-esque. I felt like I could taste the sugar alcohols a bit more in this flavor, but it wasn’t overpowering by any means. The flavor was on point and I really enjoyed it. White chocolate almonds have the protein same as salty peanut and the other protein bars, and the only major difference is that it’s got 20 grams of carbs in a single serving, which is a little higher than the salty peanut barebells protein bar. It’s a classic protein bar flavour, and a go-to for many people. Barebells’ offering certainly looks good, coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate and sprinkled with cocoa soya crispies.

Hazelnut protein bars have soy protein isolate and pea protein as the primary protein source. In my previous article, I have clearly explained that soy protein isolate is harmful to men, and men should not use it. Flavour-wise, this is more a chocolate cashew bar than caramel cashew, and I can’t help but feel slightly misled. The caramel layer is scarcely there and it didn’t deliver the hint of salt I was hoping for – and which would have really elevated the flavour. If you only try one flavor, definitely try to get your hands on the creamy crisp and thank me later. Barebells made some rather large claims when this flavour was released, and similarities with a certain range of luxury Italian chocolates were more than implied (‘little crunchy Rocher-style Hazelnut pieces’). Does it live up to their hype? Hazelnut nougat’s center is filled with soft nougat cream and a milk chocolate coating. The smooth texture of the core is balanced with the Cripsy outer chocolate layer.

🍪 Privacy & Transparency

Mint chocolate has really grown on me, and I no longer consider it toothpaste with a twist. A pretty standard protein bar flavour, Barebells’ mint offering doesn’t match the likes of Grenade, but it’s a pleasant bar for mint fanatics (but not if you’re expecting dark chocolate).

Barebells sure love their sprinkles – this bar is adorned with some white disks which, although cute, have no discernible purpose or relation to fudge whatsoever. But, unnecessary adornments aside, the bar is deliciously sweet – as you would expect fudge to be. The flavor is tough to describe, and I can truly only describe it as a candy. The nougat interior is extremely light & airy, there’s a gooey caramel layer, a delicious chocolate coating, and crunchy cookie pieces lining the exterior of the bar.After some chewing, the bar does become a little tasteless, once the hit of salty peanut has passed. After a brief, albeit blissful, moment, the bar becomes regular old chocolate protein bar, until you move in for the next mouthful. I tried Chocolate Dough first because this flavor was the most appealing to me (who can pass up a good chocolate option? Not me!) It tastes like a mixture of chocolate cake and a candy bar. It’s kind of like a Crunch bar because of the crunchy chocolate pieces on top (in protein bar form, of course…) One of the main things I noticed when trying these was the texture. They’re not chalky at all, but also not too chewy (at least in this flavor.) It’s hard to find a protein bar with a good texture, so I was really impressed with that. On top of their slightly spennier price point, there are so many different varieties of protein bar out there. It can be hard to know which one to choose – especially if you have dietary requirements (such as being vegan), have allergies or suffer from IBS.
